5 Free Websites Where You Can Learn Valuable Skills

It’s a tough and competitive job market out there, which is why it’s important to keep your skills current with the changing times. Not only that, but it can never hurt to add new skills and proficiencies to your resume.

Or maybe you just love to learn new things. There’s something fun about mastering a new language or a method of photography.

Whatever your motivations, there are numerous websites out there that can help you achieve your continuing education goals, some of them free. Here are five of them:

1. Udacity

The programs offered by Udacity are designed for professionals to learn the skills they need in areas such as web development, data analysis and mobile development. Industry giants such as Google, Facebook and AT&T are all clients of Udacity.

A few examples of classes they offer include Digital Marketing, Product Design, JavaScript Basics and even classes on uber-cool topics like Artificial Intelligence for Robotics.

2.  United Nations Institute for Training and Research

The website for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research states that their mission is “to develop capacities to enhance global decision-making and to support country level action for shaping a better future.” The site is part of the United Nations System and offers courses open to the public for free.

A few examples of classes they offer include Confronting Trauma, Global Framework for Climate Services, Cities and Climate Change and Conflict Analysis.

3. Khan Academy

Khan Academy offers a multitude of classes for all ages on a variety of subjects. With numerous online tools, from instructional videos to a personalized learning dashboard, Khan Academy allows you to learn new skills at your own pace and on your own time.

A few examples of classes they offer include Math (by grade), classes on test preparation, Art History and Statistics.

Founded by Harvard University and MIT in 2012, edX is an online learning destination and MOOC provider, offering high-quality courses from the world’s best universities and institutions to learners everywhere.

The online learning site has more than 90 global partners and offers a wide range of classes that are free to anyone who is interested in learning more about a specific topic.
