Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

A top-notch smoker. Unlike most smokers, this package includes a protective cover. Includes free expert assembly option. 2 silicon grommets monitor internal temp. Easy to adjust temp with dampers. Easy to add more charcoal or wood while cooking.
The big advantage of the 22.5" model is capacity. The grates are 21" across compared to 15.5" on the little unit. You can actually get a few slabs of ribs to lay comfortably on the grates without cutting them in half or bending them.
With 726 square inches of cooking space divided between two cooking surfaces, the 22.5 inch Smokey Mountain is perfect for a lot of barbecue. It easily holds whole racks of spare ribs in addition to giving you enough space for 60 pounds of pork butts or perhaps 4 large turkeys.
The Weber Smokey Mountain is a brilliant choice for a very cost-efficient smoker. It’s also great for BBQ veterans and has been used to win several competitions around the world. It holds the internal temperature very well and require very little attention to produce perfect BBQ every time.

What reviewers didn't like

Doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that other high-end smokers have.
It is too large to fit flat in a standard sink, and you can't line it with foil easily because it is wider than the largest sized consumer-grade foil. We wish WSM had a wider lid. It rests inside a lip in the center section allowing water to get in.
On the one downside, the front access door is a little flimsy so you should be careful not to bend it out of shape.
One thing we don’t like is that the lid isn’t hinged. The charcoal door is still a bit flimsy. Despite having a heat deflector underneath, we still think it’s necessary to place the WSM on something if you’re smoking on a deck or on grass.
