Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

85W power delivery offers plenty of juice for most laptops and computer accessories. Compatible with most PC and Apple laptops. Can output video to 2 monitors.
Compatibility includes Windows and macOS platforms with a Thunderbolt 3 port available.
As for its unique selling point, it comes in the shape of an M2 slot found underneath the device, that can be removed by taking out two screws.

What reviewers didn't like

Dual display setup suffers in performance when trying to use the full 4K resolution.
Performance is subpar on the two USB 3.1 G1 Type-C ports. I was able to reach 359 MB/s read and 325 MB/s write in testing and while that is average for most solutions like these, StarTech can do better. Moving on to the Gigabit Ethernet, we once again found subpar performance for the Intel i210 Gbe controller reaching a peak of 500 Mbps in testing.
There’s nothing revolutionary about the design of this docking station; Startech stuck with the traditional elongated black metal brick design. It only has 11 connectors and ports; Caldigit has 15 in comparison.
