Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Puzzles are diverse. Some environments are nicely designed.
Adam’s Venture: Origins guides you pretty smoothly from one scene to the next, but the gameplay feels rather boxed in; there’s absolutely no room to wander off the beaten path, which feels like a missed opportunity. Some of the locations are actually quite well-designed, and the type of game this is should lend itself well to letting you step away from your preset destination and perhaps find an odd collectible or two.
I wanted to like this one – there's merit to its puzzle-first design philosophy and I appreciated the look of the world if nothing else.
Adam's Venture is a fun, satisfying puzzler which while lacking a bit of polish offers brilliant visuals but can stand to have had improved audio. If you put all this behind you though it challenges you and your ability to work things out and offers plenty of variety to keep you interested.
Visually bright environments. Puzzles are simple. Short run-time. Forgivng platforming.
Puzzles interesting. Puzzles fun. Very good lighting effects.
Adam’s Venture: Origins is a fun aside. It is a game that proves this medium is more than the sum of its parts. The adventuring isn’t as good as Uncharted, its narrative isn’t as engaging as, its puzzles aren’t as engrossing as The Witness. But even with all of this, there is something sweet about Adam Venture. Although it might not be worth the asking price just yet, this is a game can keep you occupied and happy longer than you might expect.
The Adam’s Venture series is a third person action adventure game in the same vein as classic 90s era Tomb Raiders. AV:Origins is a reimagined prequel chapter to the original PS3 port. Priced as a mid-level title on both consoles and PC, this latest edition promised to deliver next-gen visuals, and new improved gameplay. But this latest entry leaves a lot to be desired.
Needless to say, the game delivers in the graphical department, with some impressive lighting and texture work. Throughout the game, you will visit a variety of different locations, the majority of them looking pretty impressive.

What reviewers didn't like

Awful protagonist. Clunky gameplay in parts. Glitches are too common. Story doesn’t grab you.
There’s none of that; you can’t even get mildly lost as you’ll only ever be able to travel in the direction of your next objective. This linearity makes for a very short experience – I completed the game in two sittings, which probably amounted to around five hours. Considering that Adam’s Venture: Origins started out life as three separate titles, its brevity is something of a surprise. Had the game’s narrative been paced better, or had we been given the freedom to do a little exploration, it would have felt like a more worthy experience. As it stands now, I unfortunately can’t recommend paying full price for such a short and markedly average game.
But it's not worth your time or energy persevering through an otherwise low-energy, low-effort production just for a few bright spots.
Sadly however, once you hit the end there is little to keep you coming back. A one-time venture which needs some improvements still but definitely a fun one.
The entire sarcastic cast. Load times hamper a quick restart. It's all just kinda ... bland
Extremely short. Exaggerated price.
Improvements in a few areas, most notably graphics and a heavy reliance on puzzles to progress. However Adam's Venture: Origins feels completely uninspired and flat. Clunky and awkward or rushed and unpolished.
A mix of clunky movements and bugs also detract from the experience, and I’ve encountered countless amounts of them. Audio cutting out, glitching out characters, and a game crash just to name a few. It really ruins the immersion and mixed with it’s slow gameplay, I found myself struggling to complete the game.
