Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Windproof for excellent warmth and available to purchase in a variety of colors. It is surprisingly light despite its heavy-duty design. The fleece helps keep you impressively warm.
Perhaps its most important quality, though, is that it’s instantly shoppable (and very much available) on Amazon. You shouldn’t mistake this for an impulse buy, though. According to more than 13,000 five-star reviews, Amazon shoppers say Orolay’s Women’s Thickened Down Jacket is the best coat they’ve ever found.
I put this Amazon coat to the ultimate test at -8ºF with a wind chill of -19ºF followed by a wind chill of -33ºF just a day later. The good news is that this jacket nailed it on all fronts.
When it comes to standing the test of time, the Orolay Down Jacket is a step above the rest. This oversized puffer boasts ribbon tassels and ribbed knit cuffs, giving the jacket a sophisticated look. The coat also offers plenty of colorways and fur trim options—12 to be exact!—so you can find the combo that really suits your style. It isn’t just fashionable, though.
The Orolay coat is clearly warm. When I put it on, it's like receiving a big bear hug, and I feel totally sheltered from everything. It's certainly on the bigger, puffier side, but I honestly wouldn't want it any other way because there's a thick barrier between me and the frigid outside air. Another huge plus? This coat doesn't skimp on pockets. The Orolay coat has not two, not four, but six massive pockets that securely snap shut and hold everything I could need on a walk or grocery run.
The jacket is wind-proof, water resistant, and machine washable (so long as your remove the faux fur), which gives you just another reason to love it. "I assumed this was some expensive designer jacket, cause it looks it," says another reviewer. "It's a great jacket for the price that looks waaaaay more expensive than it is.”
Oprah isn't the only one who loves the Orolay down jacket—it has over 7,000 rave reviews on Amazon. Not only that, but it's won over the hearts of many fashion bloggers and Instagram influencers. In fact, the Amazon coat even has its own Instagram account with 4,000+ followers (!!). The coat is spacious and roomy, perfect for slipping over even the bulkiest winter sweater and I love the cozy sherpa lining on the inside of the the hood. The down interior is warm without being suffocating.

What reviewers didn't like

Smaller fit than most customers expect.
Loose-fit hoodie – No drawstring to tighten the hoodie. During windy conditions, the hoodie repeated got blown off my head.
Before you rush to add this coat to your cart , make sure you check out Orolay’s sizing chart. It’s meant to be oversized, but you still want a good fit, or it won’t do its job of keeping you toasty.
The one potential downside is its heavy weight. While parkas are meant to have some heft, of all the ones in my closet, the Orolay one is by far the biggest and bulkiest. It's essentially like wearing a down comforter—incredibly cozy but not exactly lightweight.
