Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Support for the newest wireless standard. Netgear's cloud accounts are protected with two-step verification. Sharing of USB devices is truly plug-and-play. You can set the router to update its firmware automatically. It is integrated both with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can be mounted on walls. Great multilingual support.
The Nighthawk AX4 is a dual-band router that supports the brand-new, high-speed 802.11ax wireless standard, while also maintaining compatibility with 802.11ac, 802.11n and older connection types. It supports 2x2 MIMO on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and offers four Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired connections.
The Nighthawk RAX40 comes with four Gigabit LAN ports, one Gigabit WAN port, and one USB 3.0 port which is plenty for the average user. For an entry level 802.11ax router, the RAX40 is reasonably priced and has plenty to offer.

What reviewers didn't like

The speed of the USB 3.0 port deserves improvement. The WiFi experience on the 2.4 GHz may be faulty on some network clients (not all). Netgear's ecosystem of apps and services is confusing and needs to be simplified.
The build quality isn’t as reassuringly solid as on previous Nighthawk routers, the feature set is fine rather than extensive and, while it’s capable of delivering performance that no 802.11ac router could match, it doesn’t measure up to rival 802.11ax offerings.
Need AX devices To Take Advantage. Bulky.
