From The Manufacturer

The Pigeon really, really wants to finish this activity book! But that pesky Duckling keeps getting in the way. Oh, and there’s someone new on the scene causing all kinds of problems…. Follow the Bus Driver’s lead as you write, color, draw, create–even build an airport!–in this fun-filled book starring the Pigeon and YOU. Willems and Codename: Kids Next Door creator Warburton allow readers to really get in touch with Pigeon, Duckling, and other beloved characters in a banter-filled activity book with a hilariously digressive narrative. On each perforated page, the Bus Driver provides instructions for each activity (which include drawing prompts, crafts, games, and more), while Pigeon-no surprise-gently pesters readers (“Now we’re done with this activity book, right?”). When an alarmed Pigeon announces, “We’re late for a puppet show!?” readers are instructed to craft a paper airplane, which then necessitates building an airport, naturally. Readers also have a hand in creating an elaborate puppet show (that Pigeon sleeps through), by filling in blanks for an exchange featuring a cranky new character, Mad Cow. The humor snowballs, with kids adding their own jokes to the mix, and the laughs will, too. Ages 3 up.

Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

As far as activity books go this is one of the most unique, creative, and fun ones we have used. This is a great book to take on vacation so your child has some activities to do while you wait various places or spend time in a hotel.
My little ones still fight over who can work on this one. Not only does the workbook include a mix of art and writing by teaching children how to draw their own “Pigeon,” but it gets them reading.
There are lots of opportunities for children to incorporate their own ideas and preferences, so this never becomes a boring series of instructions and tasks.
Each page has an activity
There was enough variety in the activities that she never got bored. She made a puppet show. She built an airport. She got to use her creativity in so many different ways.
You'll also notice that the pages are perforated and tear out easily. There are also special storage flaps on the front and back inside covers that will give you a place to keep the pages removed from the book.
We got the book on this Sunday and she has been keeping herself busy with book.

What reviewers didn't like

A lot of the activities are more involved than what can be done in the car though - only downside.
The layout can be confusing and busy for kids
My 7 year old needed some help reading the instructions.
Adults should be sure to read the Things You Should Know page that explains how to use the book and what special supplies are needed. You'll need a pencil, box of crayons, some tape, a pair of scissors and a few coins, plus a stapler and some string.
