An Overview On Flex Hoses
Kiss your days of dragging around that bulky garden hose goodbye: Not only are flexible garden hoses built to prevent kinks, they’re also extremely lightweight and compact. Many models expand from their original size of just a few feet to lengths of 50 to 100 feet when water is running through them, and then collapse back to their smaller size when not in use. This makes them easy to store and ideal for all types of outdoor household tasks, from watering the yard to cleaning out the gutters.
While traditional hoses are often made of rubber, vinyl or polyurethane, many flex hoses are constructed of a flexible lining inside of a woven fiber casing, making them extremely pliable and less likely to kink and tangle. Common features of flex hoses include leak-preventing connectors and an on/off valve. Some come with special extras such as a hose hanger, connector protectors, a two-way splitter, sprayer and more. If you’re just looking for a simple hose for your small yard, a basic 50-foot model will probably satisfy your needs.
The Flex Hose Buying Guide
- When your hose is not in use, turn off the faucet and open the on/off valve of the hose (or utilize your sprayer) to drain the water out. Once you do this, it should snake back to its original size.
- To prevent water pressure damage to the hose, don’t leave your faucet on when you’re not using it.
- Avoid stretching out the hose, unless it is filled with water.
- During hot weather, drain the hose and store it in a shaded location.
- To prevent damage to the hose’s exterior, don’t drag the product across hard surfaces like concrete.
