From The Manufacturer

Unlike traditional, circular earbuds, the design of the EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other earbud-style headphones. The speakers inside the EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio. The EarPods also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.

Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Great sound for the price. Surprisingly strong bass considering it's not an in-canal design. Inexpensive. Includes small carrying case.
The Apple EarPods offer mostly impressive sound, with good detail and better bass than Apple's previous headphones. They're also lightweight, with a comfortable fit, and have an integrated inline remote and microphone for making calls and controlling your music playback.

For our panel, the general feeling with the EarPods was that they’re unobjectionable but unremarkable.
Good clarity. Much improved bass response. Good remote.
Great portable design. Simple and easy-to-use controls.
They do come with very good sound quality and especially the highs are very fantastic. The ear tips fit quite good into your ears and they don't get out even when you're running.

What reviewers didn't like

Design still doesn't fit everyone. Doesn't block out any external noise and some sound leaks out.
Some people may find that the EarPods don't fit securely in their ears, and these earbuds also let in a lot of sound and leak a little sound, too.
-
Weak mid-range. Quickly work their way out of optimum position.
Poor isolation from ambient noise. Easily falls out of your ears. Bass and treble delivery varies significantly across users.
