Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

If you’re a budget-constrained shopper looking for a full-featured home weather station, the Ambient Weather WS-2902 is a no brainer. It’s accurate, easy to set up, and has more sensors than you’d expect to get at this price. This is also a great weather station for people living in smart homes, with its connectivity to IFTTT, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant. In fact, there’s very little reason to spend more, even if you’re a discerning weather watcher.
At this price point, the Ambient Weather WS-2902B offers the most value for money compared to any other weather station on the market right now. The capabilities of the internet and smart home connectivity surpass even most mid and high-end personal weather stations. If you don’t have a lot of money to drop on a weather station, but you need something reliable and accurate—then the Ambient Weather WS-2902B is the one you want.
Majority of the weather stations have the capacity to measure just five or six weather conditions. The WS-2902 is ahead of the others in this field. It’s a 10-in-1 weather stations that can measure; wind speed, rainfall, humidity, outdoor temperature, indoor temperature, UV, wind direction, temperature, barometric pressure and solar radiation. In terms of connectivity to external devices/platforms, the WS-2902 is a piece of real beauty. The superior Wi-fi connectivity enables it to send the data that it collects, wirelessly, to the Ambient Weather Network.
The Ambient Weather WS-2902A Osprey offers a lot of bang for your buck, including Wi-Fi connectivity, compatibility with voice assistants, and integration with user-friendly data-monitoring platforms. The WS-2902A delivers connectivity and remote-monitoring features that are competitive with more expensive weather stations. Services like the Ambient Weather Network can help you better predict the conditions at your location, which can improve the efficiency of your watering schedule (for those with green thumbs), or just help you stay a little more prepared if you live in an area with tumultuous weather.
The main selling point of the WS-2902A is how compatible it is with smart homes. The console connects to your router and can automatically transmit the data to the internet. This allows you to monitor the weather on the go with your phone, tablet, or computer. It connects seamlessly to services like Weather Underground and WeatherCloud to stream the data to your personal webpage.

What reviewers didn't like

I found its readings to be slightly less accurate compared to other weather stations, for example, and that display console is very difficult to read when viewed off axis (forget about it if you’re more than 30 degrees off in any direction).
Limited viewing angle on the display console. Additional sensors do not show up on the console just on AmbientWeather.net
The position of the LCD display screen is unfriendly; hampers convenience.
Unfortunately, its interesting aesthetics do not translate to build quality, especially in terms of materials. The plastic feels very cheap and not very durable. This is especially apparent in the wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall sensors. They seem very flimsy, and the material has an annoying way of picking up every stray particle of dirt.
Even though the rain gauge does its job well, it lacks a way of repelling birds. They might gather around the collector and clog the sensor with their droppings. If you want to avoid this, you could try to place makeshift spikes around the gauge to make sure it’s protected.
