Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Features a thick layer of memory foam on top so, lying on my side, I felt very little pressure on my shoulders and hips. The AmazonBasics is a nice, comfortable mattress for side sleepers.
Lying on the mattress, I can tell you the memory foam does a great job at providing contour to areas like the hips and shoulders. This can be super accommodating for side sleepers since pressure points can lead to tossing and turning.
The cover is made of a polyester blend that’s stretchy, thin, and quick-drying. It’s also quite breathable, which will help with cooling throughout the mattress. The memory foam did contour to my body, but I experienced a much quicker response to pressure here than I have with some other memory foam mattresses, which allowed me to move around with relative ease.
Fairly responsive. In other words, the top layers snap back to position quickly after pressure is released. The top layer on the mattress is still very soft and gentle around your hips and shoulders. Our testing team didn’t experience any sort of discomfort or irritation while sleeping on their side.Q
Offers good conforming and pressure relief, isolates motion transfer well, produces no noise, and sleeps cooler than many competing all-foam models. Additionally, its price-point is far lower than the average memory foam mattress.

The biggest benefit of this mattress is the price. If you know that you like the feel of memory foam and want a mattress a little on the softer side, this would be a great choice.

What reviewers didn't like

Not a very supportive mattress, and might not be a good fit for most back sleepers. Back sleepers usually want a mattress with a balance of comfort and support and, while the AmazonBasics has the comfort, it does come up short on support.
Both materials have durability concerns. Glass fiber is brittle, and viscose is prone to stretching that doesn’t recover.
I felt like I was rolling out of the bed when I turned onto the edge, so if you’re sleeping with a partner, this mattress may not be the best choice.
On Amazon’s product page, it states you can remove the cover for “easy washing,” which leads you to believe that the cover is indeed machine washable. However, the tag on the mattress states “do not wash” and “do not tumble dry,” which essentially means you’ll have to spot clean the cover if it happens to get dirty.
It has questionable durability and edge support, and its one-year warranty is much shorter than the average mattress warranty.

I wouldn’t recommend it to stomach sleepers over 170 lbs. Given that, I wouldn’t recommend the 8 or 10 inch at all to people over 200 lbs. as I don’t think the mattress would be thick enough to support you properly.
