For maximum performance using filtered water is best, hard water can lead to a shorter lifespan of your humidifier filter. Weather is also a factor in the life of your filter. Running your furnace higher than 72 degrees F can make your humidifier work harder to get moisture in the air which can lead to a dry wick. Discoloration of humidifier wick filters is normal and will vary depending on water quality. Make sure filter is flipped over after each tank fill. Package Contains Two Filters.

An Overview On Humidifier Filters
Humidifiers add moisture to the air using water to help you breathe better. The filters inside them remove minerals and other pollutants from that water, helping to prevent mold, bacteria and algae growth and migration.
Most humidifiers you see today use cool mist ultrasonic technology, which uses ultrasonic sound vibrations. Regular cool mist humidifiers use high-speed rotating disks. But matter what kind you have, the EPA recommends cleaning it every third day.
Humidifiers cannot do their jobs without clean, working filters. These inexpensive, replaceable filters can be made from clay, paper and metal, holding water as the air blows across their antimicrobial coatings. During this process, mineral deposits and impurities get removed, and the coating prevents the growth of bacteria, viruses and mold from growing on the filter.
These filters do not have expiration dates on their packages, but they will last no more than three to four months once you start using them. Filters become clogged and brittle over time and eventually cannot hold water. They can also become contaminated by impurities from the water.
That is why it is so important to change them at the start of every heating season when they are in use. You might even want to do it more often if the air in your house is especially dry.
When it comes time to replace your humidifier filters, you will have to find ones that fit with your brand and model. One manufacturer might make several humidifier models, so you’ll have to look at yours for this information. Other companies make compatible humidifier filters that might be usable with yours, but read the product reviews to check what others have to say.
The Humidifier Filter Buying Guide
- Hard water can degrade humidifier filters. Unless your humidifier’s package reads differently, filtered or distilled water is best for most models.
- To clean the humidifier, empty the tank and wipe all surfaces dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
- Some humidifier filters can discolor slightly over time, and this is normal.
- Humidifier filters may need to be soaked in water before using.
- Set a reminder to replace your humidifier filter every three to four months.
- Never pour essential oils into humidifier water tanks.
