Here’s How Much Money You Need To Make To Be In The Top 1% Of Every State

Economic Policy Institute

Come on, admit it. You know you’re curious about how the other half lives.

But just how much money do you really need to be rich?

The answer depends on where you live—of course, it’s no surprise that you need to make a lot more money to be wealthy in New York than in Arkansas.

The Economic Policy Institute did some digging to find out just how much you’d have to earn to be considered part of the top 1 percent of earners in your state. Nationally, you need to earn $389,436 a year, before taxes, to be considered in the top 1 percent of earners in the United States.
