A work-from-home job is perfect if you have kids at home, but so many of these jobs require talking on the phone. And for many people, this isn’t an option.
Whether you’ve got a lot of background noise, your work schedule is sporadic, or you’re just not a fan of gabbing all day long, you’ll want to find other legitimate work-from-home options that don’t require you to be on the phone all day.
They can be difficult to find when you’re weeding through the many work-from-home customer service jobs you see online. But luckily, we’re here to help.
Here are six legitimate non-phone work at home jobs to consider.
1. Freelance Writing
If you’ve got a way with words — the written word, that is — you might want to consider freelance writing.
This could be for a range of companies, from media websites to marketing firms to individual clients and even blogs. There are a number of websites that feature writing jobs, including Upwork, Demand Media (now called Leaf Group), Craigslist and more.
2. Virtual Assisting
Many companies or individuals look for virtual assistants to help them with their day-to-day tasks. Some may involve phone calls, but many don’t.
A virtual assistant job could include sending emails, scheduling appointments or bookkeeping. You can choose to work as an employee for a company such as 24/7 Virtual Assistant or Assistant Match, or you could take the other route and set up a virtual assistance company of your own. 3. Customer Support
Plenty of companies provide online support, which means you can help people with customer service without having to talk on the phone. Instead, you will provide customer support through chat and email. Websites such as Apple and Convergys are often hiring for online customer support positions.
4. Data Entry
Many businesses outsource data entry jobs, and it’s an easy task for you to do at home. What’s most important is that you have fast and accurate typing skills and experience with word processing, database and presentation software. Make sure you choose to apply for a legitimate company, such as Virtual Bee/The Smart Crowd or Smart Locating.
Transcribing involves listening to an audio file and typing up what you hear. When working a transcription job, it’s easy to set your own hours, and you can apply for different jobs in general, medical and legal categories.
6. Search Engine Evaluation
Websites like Google and Bing need to make sure their search engines are providing the most accurate results, and you can help test for that.
This type of work is often referred to as “Google Rating,” and it involves good research skills and experience using the Internet. Companies with good reputations include Leapforce, Lionbridge and Appen.
