Seniors missing out on graduation and prom have been in the spotlight during the coronavirus pandemic — but for some couples, another big life event has been affected: their wedding.
Many engaged couples have chosen to hold virtual weddings instead, but others are either rescheduling and hoping for the best — or canceling the biggest day of their lives altogether.
If you were supposed to get married soon, Hotels.com is holding a sweepstakes that will not only ensure you can still have a wedding, but also gives you some cash for your future honeymoon.
Couples ready to say “I Do” can apply for Hotels.com’s Captain Obvious Sweepstakes for a chance to get virtually married by the brand’s Captain Obvious mascot (yes, he’s ordained and has been renamed “Chaplain” Obvious for now). Winners also receive $5,000 to be used toward the future honeymoon of their dreams.
To enter, head to Hotels.com now through May 17 to fill out a questionnaire and say why you think you should be selected. Up to four couples will be chosen and then notified on May 22, with the virtual ceremonies taking place next month.
To qualify, you must provide proof of a valid marriage license and reside in a state where virtual marriage ceremonies are valid and legal. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity and mostly, passion — the desire and excitement to participate in this unique ceremony.
The virtual weddings will take place on June 6 and June 13. Travel bookings and credits will be paid to winners by July 17, but the sweepstakes rules do not say when the credits must be used.
“When we saw that people were opting to take their wedding ceremonies online, we obviously knew we had the perfect chaplain to them help out,” Josh Belkin, vice president of Global Brand at Hotels.com said in a press release. “With these virtual unions, we’re hoping to take one less stress off couples’ plates by inviting them to get married and take the honeymoon of their dreams once it becomes safe to do so.”
