Ascena Retail Group, the parent company to Loft, Ann Taylor, Justice, Lane Bryant, Cacique and Catherine’s, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July and will be closing a total of 1,600 stores, including about 600 of its more than 800 Justice stores.

You can search for your local store to see if it’s on the closure list, and if it is, you may want to head there soon, as you will find 50-70% off original prices.

The company says gift cards, merchandise credits and customer rewards programs are unchanged, so they will all still work through these store closings.

Justice’s website will also remain up, so if you have children or tweens who enjoy shopping there, they can still buy online even if your local location closes.

Currently, the website is running a sale of 25% off most items, with 50% off accessories and $20 backpacks. Shipping is free on orders of $50 or more for members of their loyalty program.

Ascena’s statement says they’ll also close a “select number” of stores for their other brands.

The closings happened at a time when other retailers are already struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Other retailers that have been forced to close stores include Pier 1, Tuesday Morning and Victoria’s Secret, which is closing 250 locations. JCPenney will also be closing 242 stores, though they were already struggling to keep stores open and pay off billions of dollars in debt even before the pandemic.

The Children’s Place will also be closing 300 stores, which they say is due to an operating loss of $173.1 million this year. Bed, Bath and Beyond will also be closing some stores, and as are some Buy Buy Baby and Cost Plus World Market locations after seeing sales drop by nearly 50%.

Some restaurants will also be closing select locations, including California Pizza Kitchen, Dunkin’s, Starbucks and McDonald’s.

Have any big retailers or restaurant chains closed in your area?
