What reviewers liked

The YI Home Camera includes special technology that detects a baby’s crying and sends you a smartphone alert. Plus, it boasts advanced night vision that allows you to check on your little one without disturbing them.
The recording quality was pretty good, even in night vision mode, and when the motion detection alerted me to movement, I could make out details in the image, regardless of light levels.
It’s quite rare to get a pan and tilt enabled camera for something in this price range. The best news? It actually works. Besides that, the camera quality is great and the images and video are sharp and clear, even at night.
Sound quality is decent considering how cheap the camera is, and whether you're listening in from the companion app or you're talking to someone through the camera, sound is perfectly clear enough so there are no miscommunications.
The Yi Home Camera has a microphone and a loudspeaker allowing you to communicate with anyone within earshot of the camera while you’re away through the application, further reinforcing the webcam-like properties of the thing – just keep in mind that big brother is listening.
Its night vision mode uses eight infrared LEDs to help it get a clear view in the dark. Its built-in algorithms allow the camera to detect when your baby is crying, and it can send you a distinct notification letting you know.
The app is excellent. I didn’t find it buggy at all. In iTunes the YI Home App received nearly five stars, and in the Google Play store, it received the same high ratings.
The camera captures clear images during the day and can easily spy on the given area in pitch darkness. The camera is a no-brainer and all you need to do is power it on and forget it.
The app works on both mobiles phones and PCs, plus there is two-way audio allowing you to remotely communicate with people and pets who are near the camera.

What reviewers didn't like

While the notification limitations are a bit strange and unclear within the app's settings, the real problem is the spotty motion detection. Being able to get an alert at the right time could mean the difference of contacting law enforcement during the act or missing it all together. The detection failing once or twice might be forgiven, but it was hit-or-miss far too often.
The camera only records for a very short time-frame after motion is detected, and it’s difficult/impossible to change this feature, even with a micro SD card.
The camera itself is only 720p for video, though Yi does have an upgraded (and more expensive) model with 1080p.
This model doesn’t support cloud storage but has onboard recording capabilities facilitated by micro-SD cards. The videos are encrypted upon being saved with passwords configurable through the application.
Privacy feature. There isn’t a specific privacy feature with the YI but you can leave it on continuous recording or set it to record only when it gets triggered by sounds or motion. A privacy setting would just stop the recording completely when you have friends and family in the home. If I’m hanging out with my peeps, I don’t necessarily need to pull all the security stops.
You can also use this to alert the person on the other end (it could be either waking up a sleeping guard or a scaring away a thief). However, the volume is not as loud and the camera needs to be at a close distance to understand the owner’s voice.
The Momentum HD Wireless may be an even better deal
