The progression gives you reasons to keep playing.

The defensive objectives are always enjoyable and strongly push you and your team members to work together.

Each class gains levels individually as you play, unlocking perks which can be accessed in the multiplayer modes as well as the campaign. These range from carrying more of your preferred throwable item to some really useful abilities such as being able to stand up if all four team members have been knocked down.

The game has a flair for setpieces, and a lot of its best moments come when you're signaling for help, setting off some sort of alarm, and watching as nothing less than an army of sprinting undead head your way carelessly, often spilling over ledges like a water fountain or climbing each other like slithering pyramids of flesh. It's simply stunning to watch even hours into the game.
- True Achievements
The custom Swarm engine that powers World War Z is a powerhouse that allows for incredibly detailed hordes of up to 500 zombies to terrorize players all at once.
- Xbox Gamer Reviews
The Swarm Engine is genuinely impressive.
- WCCF Tech
Even in the face of repetitive mission structure, World War Z remains a blast to play online. If you have a solid group alongside, you're in for a good time. Even the PvPvZ modes, which probably could have used more attention, are worth checking in with.

Stunning environments.

If you’ve played Left 4 Dead or even just any FPS title then you’ll find the mechanics and controls of World War Z to be as straightforward as straightforward can be. It’s very easy to jump into and get going.
- Xbox Achievements
The controls, animation, and sound design of World War Z are impressive. The controls are tight and responsive, with a sense of feedback when you swing your melee weapon or shoot. The sound design and animations are particularly amazing, with hundreds of Zekes filling the screen without slowdown and the game moving at a solid framerate.

What experts didn't like
Sadly, one area the game isn’t copying its more established four-player co-op brethren is in the boss fights. There are no tank analogies here, and it’s something that’s sorely missed.

The enormous hordes of zombies in World War Z lack the same unpredictability of Left 4 Dead's famous AI Director.
- IGN

The majority of the zombies don't pose much of a threat, only dangerous through sheer force of numbers. A few types of special zombies will make your progression more difficult, capable of incapacitating you or one of your teammates until a friendly player intervenes.
- Destructoid

The game crashed on me twice, forced me to restart due to a bug once, and would often spawn special infected in areas that were unreachable, leaving my team to listen to their signature groans but never able to hunt them down.
- True Achievements
The stellar campaign, unfortunately, is bogged down with a lacklaster multiplayer (though the player vs player vs swarm component is a nice touch) that suffers from poor server connectivity.
- Xbox Gamer Reviews
Not exactly a looker.
- WCCF Tech
The shooting mechanics are perfectly competent but offer nothing new for fans of the genre. A frustrating progression system makes outfitting character classes a bit of a drag to handle, however.
- New Game Network

Cannot issue commands to A.I. teammates.
- Readers Gambit

There’s very little to be said for the audio as there’s nothing really special here. The sound design of the guns is satisfying especially when you land some brutal shots that dismember zombies. As for the soundtrack, it’s practically non-existent.
- Xbox Achievements
We also experienced several bugs, 1 which prevented us from continuing forward and forced us to restart the entire episode.
