I tried to test the unit to see how the heating element worked, but shortly into my test the unit started beeping at me repeatedly, and the wheel status kept changing between blue and red. It seemed like it couldn’t decide if there was an error or not and was caught in a loop as a result.

This model puts out 850 watts, putting it on the low end of the models we reviewed, so it will take longer to reach the desired temperature.

The clamp might not fit thick edge containers (ie couldn’t use with a cooler) as the lever that secures it to the pan doesn’t open really wide. That limits you to thinner pots and polycarbonate containers.

Cooking is a marriage of art and science, and sous vide machines are a great example of that. In the late 1960s, French and American engineers mastered food-grade plastic films and vacuum packing. Since sous vide machines could keep packaged foods in a water bath at a consistent temperature, they were perfect for sealing and pasteurizing industrially prepared foods for a longer shelf life.
