An Overview On Baseball Hats
Although you can wear baseball hats just for fun or fashion, they shield the face and scalp from harmful UV rays that can lead to skin cancer and can also help protect your eyes and prevent wrinkles. Keeping this in mind, you can express yourself with an endless variety of styles, starting with the fan-favorite baseball team cap.
The most authentic-looking caps have a given team’s colors, with raised-embroidery logos right in the front. There are many other logo-forward baseball caps out there, including ones that showcase sports clothing companies, clothing companies, Disney, you name it.
A baseball cap should fit just like a glove. You’ll want it to mold to your head size with just enough room to be comfortable. If the cap gives you a headache, it is too tight. Fitted caps are not adjustable and do not have openings in the backs. Adjustable ones usually have straps made with buckles, plastic holes (snapback), Velcro or other closure that you can loosen and tighten.
There are several styles of baseball caps, and the medium profile is one of the most popular. It has a mid-sized body (crown) of medium depth and fits small and average-sized heads. The shallow profile cap has a lower, shallower crown. Full caps have higher crowns, and high-profile styles (the classic trucker fit) are even taller and fit average to larger-sized heads.
A traditional athletic baseball cap has a medium profile crown, separate panels and average depth. The 5-panel style cap is often worn by golfers and has five panels in a lower, somewhat broader crown. These caps can also be structured or unstructured. Structured ones have stiffer, more supportive fabric that keeps the crown in shape; unstructured ones don’t and are designed to “flop” down when not being worn.
The Baseball Hat Buying Guide
- Cotton, polyester and spandex are suitable materials for baseball caps; the first two are breathable, and the third adds stretch.
- Some baseball caps can be printed on and are perfect canvases for team logos.
- Distressed baseball caps are also in style, so don’t throw yours out when it’s worn on the edges.
- If you have long hair, try on fitted baseball caps to ensure your hair has somewhere to go.
- Do not toss your baseball cap in the washing machine, as most can only be spot-cleaned.
