Storing pool equipment can be a challenge. A shed or indoor storage closet keeps it out of sight, but storing wet items indoors can promote mold buildup. Although keeping pool equipment outdoors is ideal, you’ll likely want to store it out of the way.

That’s where pool pole hooks come in handy. These hooks can hold all types of pool equipment, from telescoping poles to leaf skimmers to brushes and vacuum hoses. They can even be used to hold gardening tools.

But you’ll have a few decisions to make before purchasing pool pole hooks. If you’re holding multiple poles, look for one with a design that will keep it all tucked firmly in place. Also check the weight capacity. Many pool pole hooks can handle up to 33 pounds per hook, which should be plenty to hold several pieces of equipment.

There are also two major choices when it comes to outdoor wall hooks. Aluminum is the most popular, but if you go this route, make sure you choose hooks that are designed to resist rust and corrosion, even with prolonged exposure to rain, snow and relentless exposure to UV rays. Plastic is another popular option due to its inherent rust resistance. But if you go with plastic, make sure it’s built to handle the weight you’ll be putting on it.

• Before you buy pool pole hooks, survey the area where you’ll be hanging them. Measure the size against the posted dimensions and make sure you know how much room they’ll take up. Also consider whether the hooks you’re choosing will affix to the surface. Wood may be easier to install than concrete, for instance.
• Make sure the hooks you order come with the hardware necessary to install them. You’ll often get screws, but you’ll need to have tools on hand to do the work. Also make sure your screws are made to resist rust and corrosion, or you could find your hooks falling off the wall after a while.
• Most pool hooks are a silver color, but you can also find them in black or bright blue. If you’re trying to create a certain look for your outdoor area, look for these color options.
• Pay close attention to the number of hooks you’re getting. Some manufacturers bill their product as being a “set of four” when they’re two brackets with two hooks each. You might be thinking you’re getting four brackets but only two arrive.
• If you’re mounting your pole holder to brick or concrete, you’ll need a drill. Also, make sure the hardware included with the brackets is designed for boring into concrete, brick or whatever other surface you’re dealing with. They may be designed for wood or drywall.
