Expert Reviews

What experts liked

The Tuft & Needle comes in one firmness, which is medium firm. For most individuals, this feel is likely to strike a comfortable balance between softness and support.
I think this bed could be fantastic for back sleepers! It’s highly supportive, ensuring neutral spine alignment from the shoulders all the way to the lower back.
The Tuft & Needle Original isn’t made with memory foam, so it doesn’t hug every contour. It has a soft top but a firm underlayer, so you should feel supported yet cushioned at the same time.
For an all-foam mattress, the Tuft and Needle is particularly breathable; for those who want the comfort of foam but don’t want to overheat at night, this could be an exceptional choice.
Almost entirely made of adaptive foam, which isolates movement so sleepers don't annoy each other.

What experts didn't like

Sleepers who like the hug of memory foam may not feel the Tuft & Needle conforms closely enough.
Strict stomach sleepers may also find that the top layer of foam is a just a little too gentle, causing their hips to sink out of alignment with their shoulders.
As we’ve determined with other mattresses that cost less than $1,000, we don’t think the Original will prove durable enough for people who weigh over 200 pounds.
For those mattress customers who are on the larger side, this mattress might not be quite supportive enough; heavier people should consider a firmer mattress that perhaps incorporates coils.
May initially be too firm for some sleepers.
