Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

The Sony XBR-X900F Series has the latest 4K standards including 4K HDR. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. This technology will give you a great picture with colors that pop, and brighter whites, and deeper blacks. Sony’s HDR is compatible with the latest HDR10 standard.
The X900F comes with Sony's lower-cost remote with rubber chunk buttons, unlike the better remote that came with last year's X900E. The remote is still very usable, and has more buttons than most remotes, at the cost of being larger than most remotes. The remote can connect to the TV by Bluetooth so that its microphone can be used with the TV's Google Assistant voice control feature.
This LED TV is one of the brightest LCDs we've seen yet, with excellent color performance.
The X900F delivers some superb viewing performance for a very broad variety of content, from native 4K HDR movies or shows, which let it deliver its best possible performance, to regular upscaled non-4K content display, for which it also does a great job.
- 4K
It has smooth operating system by Android for a fully immersive experience.
This TV has an accurate color distribution even in the lower-quality video content and responsive Google voice controls.
This LED TV features an X-motion clarity for smooth and non-blurred on-screen action and has a powerful 4K HDR X1 Extreme processor for improved brightness and contrast.
It has wider range of brightness and contrast, better motion scenes with more color clarity and voice command enabled and Dolby Vision included.
-
Boasts a generous 75-inch screen and 4K UHD resolution. Lifelike images have vibrant color. Sony's X-Motion Clarity produces impressive action, especially for gaming. Sound is rich and balanced. Compatible with Alexa. TV has ample inputs for your equipment.
The picture quality here is simply outstanding, with truly vibrant colors, high contrast, vivid brightness, and Sony’s “X-Motion” technology to keep fast-moving action clean and clear. It’s voice compatible, too, with Amazon Alexa and Google Home integration for hands-free operation and smart home connectivity. It even projects impressive sound from its built-in speakers—a rarity for most new televisions—so even if your team loses the game, with this TV, you’ll still be a winner.

What reviewers didn't like

The Android TV interface isn't as easy to use as some other smart platforms. The home screen is very long, requiring a lot of scrolling in order to see everything. The performance is also quite inconsistent; sometimes the TV will open menus quickly and have smooth animations, but other times menus will lag for a second or two before opening, and their animations will be choppy.
For all the software flexibility, the X900F's processing hardware doesn't seem quite up to the task. Navigating the Android TV interface sometimes felt jerky in testing, and some apps occasionally crashed. Add the fact that the remote, while wirelessly connected to the TV for the microphone, still requires infrared line of sight for the buttons to work, and interacting with the X900F simply feels a little sluggish.
The single most notable complaint we could claim to have with the X900F, and even this if we stretch our definition of a defect, is that it delivers surprisingly inferior peak brightness to that of some 2017 Sony and Samsung premium HDR 4K TVs which don’t even offer full-array LED backlighting.
- 4K
Viewing angle is good, but slightly narrower than you'd want.
The settings menu is hard to find and there's no component inputs for additional tuners.
Price is high. A few owners gripe about lag during software downloads and app streaming.
