What experts liked

Its smart elliptical design means smooth swaths of hair with minimal tugging, and the combination of nylon pin bristles detangle while tufted bristles smooth. Since the 1.8-pound dryer combines both a brush and a dryer in one package, that means you can go more than five minutes of styling without tapping out due to tired arms and/or a sweaty neck.

It's great investment. In the months that I have been using it, I haven’t been disappointed. You know how when you go to the salon, and the stylist gives you a blowout using a round brush and a hairdryer? If you have ever tried to replicate the process at home, you already know that it's nearly impossible. Well, this tool is basically the same idea, but it makes it humanly possible to do it without the help of a professional. It's actually pretty foolproof, to be quite honest.

On first try, I couldn't believe how quickly the Revlon Volumizer dried my hair: literally six minutes. The reason the dryer is so quick, according to the brand, is because it's designed to distribute air quickly and evenly to the hair, while also utilizing ionic technology for a shinier, smoother blowout—which was 100 percent the case when I tested (and retested) the dryer myself. What’s more, the mixed nylon pin and boar bristles help grip hair for improved volume and control.

It saves time and effort during your styling routine. It has a combination of bristles that are specifically designed to create smooth styles and reduce tangles.
- The Consumer Guide
The brush is four inches wide from the top of the bristles to the bottom and is two inches in diameter, so you’ll be able to use this on your long and thick hair with as much ease as your shorter or thinner hair.
- Family Living Today
The oval design helps with making the hair smooth.

The best part: There is no need to touch up your strands with a flat iron (like I would normally have to do to tame my frizzy locks post blow dry).
- CNN underscored
With the Revlon One Step, I’m able to skip the straightening step because it gives me a perfect straight blow out every time. No flat ironing needed!
- Merrick's Art
One of the practical things that I love about the miracle brush is that it has eliminated half of the clutter on my vanity top. Instead of getting out a blow dryer AND a straightener AND a brush – I use one tool.
- Hammers N Hugs
Every time I've used it, my hair has come out smoother, and dare I say shinier, than it has been with a regular brush and dryer.
- Popsugar
I used the Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and I was amazed! It only took 15 minutes to go from a wavy mess to a smooth blowout.
- Thrifty Brittany
The unique oval-shape makes it part paddle brush, part round brush. I can blow my main hair shafts straight and achieve curled ends. I found zero issues rotating the brush from end to root, and creating a lot of volume. The brush head is an adequate size and shape to get in between layers of hair and dry at the roots completely. The mix of nylon pin bristles and tufted boar bristles means it detangles hair and smooths to a shine.
- The Nines
The large oval brush has boar type bristles, which I found to help grab my hair and tame frizz. The large oval brush makes it easy to add volume and speeds up drying time because it comes in contact with a lot of hair at a time.
- The Very Best Baby Stuff
I loved that it has combination bristles. If you look closely, you can see the plastic-tipped bristles with more coarse bristles in between. Those coarse bristles helped grab and hold my hair like a regular round brush would.
The edges of the brush are thinner than the front and back because it allows you to get in close to the scalp and curve the brush to create volume. When you can lift and curl close to the scalp, you’ll create a voluminous look that does make it seem that you had a blow-out done in a salon.

1100-Watt power provides just the right heat. Unlike conventional hair dryers, this volumizer can be placed closer to the scalp for lift.

What experts didn't like

The one downside: its heat settings. The brush comes with two predetermined settings, low and high, which means high speed/high heat, or low speed/low heat. The high setting is powerful and quite hot, so "it may be a little harsh on shorter hairstyles, where the tool will be lingering closer to the scalp," warns Wizemann.

The only caveat is the barebones design, meaning a lack of specific temperature settings and just two speed settings, rolled into one. There are settings for High and Low and a cool shot to seal in the style, but there is no specificity for what the actual temperatures are. As someone with fine hair, this isn't ideal since I generally like to keep my heat tools between 300-325ºF.
- Reviewed
Not dual voltage and not designed to be used with a voltage converter.
- The Consumer Guide
The handle is thick so it could be hard to hold for people with smaller hands.
- Hairy Carrie
It feels slightly bulky in my hand. The motor for the dryer is housed in the handle. It's the only place for it and considering the drying power, the slight bulk is a minor trade-off.
- The Nines
There’s no way to remove the brush.

An Overview On Hair Brushes

Although you may not think of it as having a significant impact on your styling, a good hair brush can greatly affect your daily hairstyle. Make your hair routine a bit more enjoyable and less aggravating with a top-notch hair brush. There are countless types of brushes to choose from and believe it or not, there is a brush for your hair type. Let the experts help make your purchase of the best hair brush easier with some consumer reviews and highlighted features of the best hair brushes available.

Let’s start with what will work best for those with long hair. The best product for keeping long hair well-maintained is definitely going to be a paddle brush. With a large surface area, this brush covers large sections of your hair at a time to give a uniform combing. Paddle brushes also spread your natural scalp oils evenly through your hair for that perfect sheen you seek.

When you have lovely locks that are tough to tame, the best brush for those curls is a Denman brush. Many people who have curly hair are told not to brush their curls, but when they really need to, this is the type of brush they’ll want to use. With soft bristles and a pillowy cushion, the curls respond with buoyance and detangle much easier than with a wire brush that will just frizz out the curls.

Do you prefer to brush your hair when it is fresh out of the shower? There’s a specific brush for that too, the vented brush. This brush allows for airflow and any excess water can escape out the brush rather than back into the hair. It also makes blow-drying much quicker with such excellent airflow.

The boar bristle round brush is what the professionals say is best for frizzy hair. The excellent grip of the bristles offers a sleeker finish to the hair. These types of brushes work to calm even the toughest of frizz. It’s best to brush in small sections with this type of brush for the best results.

For frequent blow-driers, the ceramic round brush is what you will want for your hair brush. Not only will this brush help give curl, but it also increases the volume in your hair, particularly at the roots. And for those who rock bangs, a smaller-barrel round brush is key to keeping them plump and voluminous. Find a two-in-one product with brushes that can dry and brush your hair simultaneously.

And for those who have particularly difficult hair, a detangling brush is the best to get. With bristles that consist of different lengths, you won’t have to experience the pain of brushing through tough knots and tangles. Particularly good for kids who hate to get their hair brushed is the vibrant and detangling hair brushes from Crave Naturals and ArtNaturals. These brushes will calm the fear of hair brushing and make it a more pleasurable experience for both adult and child.

Make your hair styling experiences as good as they can get with these outstanding hair brushes. Find one that works for your hair type and add it to your accessories.

The Hair Brush Buying Guide

  • Sometimes you will need multiple types of brushes and combs to style your mane the way you want.
  • Even the best hair brushes might need a little help from a detangler or leave-in conditioner, so try combining your new brush with some other products for easy styling.
