What is remarkable about this Norpro product is that it calculates the different cooking stages of eggs. Unlike other devices that rely on time to determine the state of egg-doneness, the Egg Perfect utiizes water temperature as its principal indicator. This means the Norpro will try to evaluate the current temperature of water and determine whether it is already time to fish out the eggs.

The Norpro Egg Perfect Egg Timer is an inexpensive and amazing little gizmo. It really works. You just put this heat sensitive plastic egg in the boiling water with your real eggs, and it changes color at the same rate as the eggs. It's easy to read the scale and get perfect soft, medium, or hard boiled eggs every time, no matter what altitude you are at or how many eggs are in the hot water bath.

Drop it into water at the same time as your eggs, and as the eggs cook, the timer's internal sensor will react to heat. As the timer heats up, its face will darken to indicate when the eggs are soft, medium, and hard. The timer is smart enough to adjust for the amount of water and eggs in the pan, and even your altitude.

Itself egg-shaped and made of resin, this kitchen accoutrement has saved me from a multitude of oeuf sins. You simply pop it in the pot along with your raw egg(s), cover with cold water, and start boiling. The heat-sensitive resin will change from red to black according to its temperature (yes, like a mood ring), and visually indicate whether your eggs will become soft-, medium-, or hard-boiled as they continue to cook. When they’ve reached your desired consistency, take all the eggs out, and get cracking. It works every single time.

We buy free range egg's and if you ever over cook them the inside membrane becomes rubbery. Well no more thanks to the egg perfect timer! This thing works perfectly every-time. It's easy to use and i had no problems begin able to see it change colors. I have even recommend it to the farmer that we buy the egg's from as well.

As the timer heats up the red face changes color, indicating soft, medium, hard and stages in between. Egg timer; hand wash. Calculates cooking stages precisely by temperature, not loosely by time. Placed in pan with eggs, timer darkens as eggs cook. Calibrated to indicate soft, medium, hard, and stages in-between. reacts to heat just as an egg does. Calculates cooking stages by temperature, not time.

Place this little semi-transparent doodad in your boiling water, and it’ll change color to indicate what level the eggs are cooked at based on temperature. A life-changer.

You can cook your eggs right every time with the perfect egg timer. It is not like other timers because it actually sits in the water with your eggs. It absorbs heat the same way that your eggs do so it can let you know when your eggs are perfect. Many egg timers simply sound an alarm after a set amount of minutes.

What experts didn't like
You have to stand over the pot while the egg timer reaches your 'goal'. Soft boil or hard boiled, does not reach perfection.

As the timer heats up, the red face changes color, indicating soft, medium, hard and stages in between, absorbing heat exactly as an egg does. The result is the perfect boiled egg! Place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a pan. Cover with at least an inch or two of room temperature water. Egg timer darkens as eggs cook. An Overview On Kitchen Timers

Whether you’re making a complex recipe with highly involved steps or boiling an egg for the first time, a good kitchen timer can make your life much easier. In cooking and baking, timing can be critical. If you wait an extra 30 seconds, your soft-boiled egg may develop a texture you don’t want. If you take your brownies out of the oven too early, the batter may not have finished cooking.

The thing is, your kitchen likely already has a number of timers. Most ovens and microwaves come with built-in cooking timers, which can be handy for simple recipes. Plus, your smartphone has a clock and timer in it as well, so you can take it with you around the house while waiting for your food to cook.

However, a good kitchen timer is often far more exact than an oven, microwave or smartphone clock because it is made specifically for timing food. Precision is a key quality of kitchen timers; you want to make sure when you set it for one minute, it will beep at that time and not dock a few vital extra seconds.

One of the key features many kitchen timers have (that most microwave and oven clocks don’t) is that they can either count up to higher numbers or down to zero. Depending on your personal preference, you may want to use a particular setting for a specific recipe — and a kitchen timer provides that freedom.

Some kitchen timers also come with multiple timers, so you can set one for each of the dishes you’re making without having to use separate devices. If you’re a prolific cook, this is a must-have feature.

If you’re busy around the kitchen, you may prefer a kitchen timer that is magnetic and can stick to metal surfaces. Or perhaps you’d like a kitchen timer on a special stand that allows you to see the display screen from wherever you are.

And if you aren’t very tech-savvy, a simple kitchen timer can provide the needed features without you having to learn the complexities of the oven or microwave clock first. Bonus!

DYWM Fun Fact

Digital kitchen timers with fancy features are actually a fairly new market option. Kitchen timers started out fairly basic, with the hourglass style — a sand-filled glass vial that was tapered in the middle to a narrow neck. The cook would turn the vial over to allow gravity to drain the sand from one end to the other. Typically, the sand took three minutes to fall to the other side, which is the perfect amount of time to make a soft-boiled egg.

After the hourglass came manual wind-up timers, in which the cook turned a knob to the time they wished to mark. The gadget then counted down to zero and would ring a bell or buzzer to let the cook know time was up. This enabled cooks to go about their kitchen tasks without having to glance at the timer every few seconds.

The Kitchen Timer Buying Guide

  • One of the most important aspects to consider when selecting a kitchen timer is to make sure it can do what you need it to do. Some cooks want to be able to count both up and down, while others want to ensure that the timer can time multiple dishes at once. The Wrenwane Digital Kitchen Timer and Etekcity Digital Kitchen Timer count up or down. The OXO Good Grips Triple Timer comes with three separate timers, which can be used to time one long-cooking food item or keep track of three separate recipes at once.
  • For many cooks, having a large, clear display screen is important. This enables you to see how much time is left on a recipe when you’re working on another dish on the other side of the kitchen. The Wrenwane Digital Kitchen Timer and Etekcity Digital Kitchen Timer have large screens that exhibit clear digits and can be read from far away. While the screen on the OXO Good Grips Triple Timer is large, the digits are smaller because it displays all three times at once.
  • If you’re concerned about missing the alarm ringing, you’ll want to make sure that your kitchen timer comes with a high volume setting. That way, you’ll be able to hear it from another room or over the noise of the blender. The Wrenwane Digital Kitchen Timer and Etekcity Digital Kitchen Timer both come with a loud alarm, while the OXO Good Grips Triple Timer offers different sounds for each of its three timers.
  • Affordability is a key deciding factor for many cooks. The Wrenwane Digital Kitchen Timer and Etekcity Digital Kitchen Timer are low-cost options, while the OXO Good Grips Triple Timer is essentially three timers in one and therefore commands a higher price.
