Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

It was the fastest 5GHz router I tested and also the fastest for file transfers, which is what the majority of people would use it for. It also has next-gen features such as MU-MIMO and is relatively affordable too, making it my top pick for a high-end AC router.
- IGN
The Netgear Nighthawk X4S Smart Wi-Fi Router (R7800) delivers strong 5GHz and MU-MIMO throughput, and offers lots of management options in a user-friendly Web console.
The router sports the most powerful hardware on the market, running a dual-core 1.7GHz processor with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of flash memory.
-
2.53Gbps of wireless bandwidth. Working MU-MIMO. Great wireless coverage. Two USB 3.0 ports, and an eSATA port. Full of useful hardware features.

What reviewers didn't like

In my 2.4GHz tests, the R7800 languished towards the bottom of the pack. It wasn’t the strongest showing at 2.4GHz, making it one of the slower options if you’re still running legacy devices.
- IGN
Pricey. Middling file-transfer speeds in our tests.
The router's software interface is confusing and slow and its network storage performance can't match the competition. It is pricey.
-
Software interface could use some work. USB performance misses the mark. Not cheap.
