The Netgear NightHawk AX8 RAX80 is worth considering if you're adamant about future-proofing your home network. It performs admirably, and its file-transfer performance is stellar

Netgear's new Nighthawk AX8 wireless router uses the new Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard. Its full potential in providing greater security and supporting more devices will be realized as other devices also upgrade to Wi-Fi 6. Meanwhile, it's a performance booster, and future-proof your home network.

What reviewers didn't like
It's more expensive than the Asus RT-AX88U, and it doesn't offer as many features.
This router is significantly more expensive than existing Wi-Fi routers. No parental controls.
This took a little fiddling though. Out of the box, the performance wasn't optimal. We had to play with the settings in the router to enable a faster rate for 802.11ac in order to get up to the speeds we expected.
