An Overview On Dorm Sheet Sets
A college student’s first home-away-from-home should be a sanctuary where they can feel cozy and comfortable while studying or relaxing. College students spend a lot of time sitting or sleeping in their dorm bed, so finding well-made, affordable sheets is one way to ensure that they get a good night’s sleep.
Before purchasing sheets for a student to bring with them to school, you’ll need to know the size of the beds in the dorm rooms. Look on the college’s website and find the page for its residence life and housing services. From there, you should be able to find the dorm where the student will be living.
Most college websites describe what the dorm rooms are like, including the sizes of the beds. The majority of these are XL twins, and you should be able find the exact measurement, which is usually about 39 inches by 80 inches. If you cannot locate this information, call the school’s residence life department. Not all dorm rooms have beds of this size, so be sure to double-check.
Twin XL sheets are not always easy to find, so give yourself plenty of time to shop around before you actually need them. Also, it’s wise to buy only two or three sets. Many students only spend a few years in the dorms and will need sheets in other sizes later on.
The Dorm Sheet Set Buying Guide
- Wash the sheets before packing them for your student’s trip to college.
- Some regular twin fitted sheets and comforters may fit a twin XL bed, but measure them first. The most important thing is that the fitted sheet is XL, since it will likely pop off the mattress if it is not.
- Dorm beds can be hard and uncomfortable, so you may want to invest in a mattress topper, or “egg crate mattress pad.”
- If you buy a mattress pad, measure its length and depth. The fitted sheet you choose may need deep pockets to fit over it.
