What experts liked
With its leakguard core and comfortable fit,Luvs is a brand many parents turn to for quality at good price. We like the secure fit and wider fastening area that makes changing faster.
- BestReviews
Excellent absorption speed when fluid was poured onto a flat spot of the diaper. The Luvs Ultra Leakguards absorbed fluid quickly when we poured it gradually onto flat diapers, then didn't let any out when we applied pressure to the wet part afterwards.

The Nightlock Plus helps keep your child dry, even overnight.
- Best Mom Products
The stretch tabs can be refastened, so if you don’t get the best fit the first time you put on the diaper, you can just peel the tabs back and try again. Basically, these are cute, nice-looking diapers that are solid performers.
- Mom Loves Best
One of the most admirable features of these diapers is the fasteners that come in a wide range of ways. The diapers also include stretchable sides that make it easier to fasten. The diapers allow you to peel off the fasteners and repeat the process in case you do not get the fastening right.

Of all the brand name diapers out there, Luvs are some of the cheapest. They are also really easy to use. They have an extra stretchy clasp on each side that makes it quick and easy to open them up big and wide, which will allow you to get them off and on in no time at all.

It features a contoured baby belly notch. Therefore, even a one-day baby will be safe since the umbilical cord will heal naturally. The pocketed waistband ensures a snug fit and keeps the mess inside to avoid leakage. It is one of the best baby diapers for sensitive skins.
- Ask Pro Reviews
What experts didn't like
These may not work for overnight use for all babies,as some experience leaks when used overnight.
- BestReviews
On the downside, the diapers didn't absorb as well as some others in our test when we poured fluid on a diaper positioned at a 45-degree angle.
- Good Housekeeping
October 22, 2015 | Full review
We didn't like the test results for leaks. This diaper earned a 5 of 10 for leaks which is below the average for the group. It had more run-off during testing than the some of the competition and online reviewer accounts have a significant percentage mentioning leaking problems.
- Baby Gear Lab
Currently this diaper can only be shipped within the U.S which can be an issue if you are trying to order them internationally.
- Net Parents
They are thinner than some other brands, and some consumers say they need to be changed more frequently.
- Heavy
Luvs are quite a bit thinner than Pampers diapers. This can affect the fit, and make them slightly more prone to leaks. Also, the lack pf padding can be an issue for parents who want a soft landing for their babies who are just learning to walk!
- Experienced Mommy
The diapers are very strongly scented, to the point where it is difficult to smell if your child had a bowl movement.
- Best Mom Products
Like Pampers, these diapers use gel material, which can sometimes linger on your baby’s skin if the diaper is overly wet.
- Mom Loves Best
There have been incidents of diaper explosions. The saturated gel gets out of the diaper leaving a big mess.
- Temper and Tantrum
As you would expect, these diapers are cheaper for a reason. While their leak protection is not horrible, it is not as good as the others on my list. If you decide to utilize these diapers, you will have to change your child more often to avoid leakage.
- My Parenting Journey
The tabs may scratch the baby’s skin causing injuries.
- Hybrid Mom

An Overview On Diapers

When it comes to disposable diapers, parents will appreciate their many benefits. Not only does this type of diaper reduce leakage, and thus the required amount of weekly laundry, but it’s also extremely convenient. Since there are several different varieties of disposable diapers on the market, there are a few things you’ll want to consider before choosing a brand.

Start by examining how well the diaper absorbs liquid. Huggies Snug & Dry feature four layers of protection to absorb wetness on contact. In addition, their special leak lock system keeps babies dry for as long as 12 hours.

“Obviously the No. 1 question that must be asked when buying diapers is: Does it leak?” Kate Desmond, a safe-sleep expert who’s also a mom of two, says. “If the answer is a resounding no, then you can start to ask follow up questions. Is the diaper soft? Does it smell OK? Does the diaper smell OK when it is full? How long can I go between diaper changes especially in the middle of the night without the diaper leaking and my baby waking?”

Desmond notes that every diaper brand will leak on occasion, as all parents know. If you find your baby’s diapers are leaking consistently, it may be time to try the next size up or switch brands entirely.

Kristin Forte/Simplemost Media

You also want to make sure that the diaper is soft on skin and has a comfortable fit. Remember, your baby is going to be wearing diapers for long periods of time once they start sleeping through the night. Luvs Ultra Leakguards Disposable Baby Diapers are made with refastenable tabs that are bigger than traditional diapers. This allows for a better fit, which will leave your little one feeling cozier.

“Shockingly, not all diapers are created equal for all babies,” Desmond says. “Depending on the size and shape of your baby’s backside, you may find one brand satisfies your little one’s needs more so than another.”

Kristin Forte/Simplemost Media

Verify that the diapers are free of parabens, chlorine and bleach. You don’t want any of those chemicals, which can cause irritation, rubbing up against your baby’s skin day and night. If your baby has sensitive skin, look for the word “hypoallergenic” on the product packaging.

Look to see if the disposable diapers have a way to let you know when you’re infant has wet the diaper. For example, Pampers Swaddlers Diapers has a wetness indicator that shows you it’s time for a change. The indicator strip will turn colors when moisture enters the diaper, which eliminates the need for you to physically open the diaper to check for wetness.

“I also look for a diaper that is going to keep my baby feeling dry,” Desmond says. “Does the diaper have the technology to lock moisture away from my baby’s skin? A quality diaper will still feel relatively dry even when it’s full.”

You’ll also want to verify that the company making the disposable diapers cares about its customers. Mama Bear Diapers does just that by offering users a satisfaction guarantee with the ability to request a refund within a year of purchasing their diapers (should you find they don’t meet your expectations).

DYWM Fun Fact

Before disposable diapers were invented, parents around the globe used a variety of methods to keep their babies clean. Chinese mothers carried their infants in bags of sand, which absorbed the urine, while Russian moms used bags filled with moss that could be replaced when soiled. In America, babies wore diapers made of cloth.

Today, disposable diapers are much more common than cloth. It is believed that the shortage of cotton during World War II led to the need for disposable diapers. With the average baby using 10 diapers per day, it’s no wonder why the majority of parents have stuck with disposable diapers since they were first invented.

The Diaper Buying Guide

  • Check to see if the company selling the diapers has a rewards program. These programs provide you with points for every product you purchase, and since most babies use diapers for at least two years, that’s a lot of possible points on the table. The points can then be exchanged for gifts or coupons for discounted products.
  • Diapers can quickly stink up a house, so it’s a good idea to purchase a diaper garbage pail and set it next to your baby’s changing table. Most diaper pails work by having you place the soiled diaper in the bag, and then twisting the bag to seal in the odor after. Once the pail is full, you simply replace the specially designed bag and start over.
  • Consider purchasing a few square or rectangular bins to keep under or next to your changing table. Use the bins to store diapers, wipes, baby powder and diaper cream so that they are within arms reach. They make plain bins as well as decorative bins, and most styles are sold at affordable prices.
  • Once your baby grows out of a size, you’ll need to decide what to do with the diapers you didn’t use. If you only have a few, you can give them to your child for pretend play. When whole packs remain, consider donating them to your local pregnancy or family planning center.
  • When comparing disposable diaper prices, you need to look at both the diaper size and the number of diapers in each pack. No matter what, you’ll be able to find a diaper that fits your budget and your needs.
