What experts liked
Kids love the fascinating realms and lands. Fun for all ages and suitable for most kids over age 10, as it doesn't contain graphic violence.
- BestReviews
It has strange and varied open world.

If there’s one thing you can’t knock Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 for, it doesn’t lack content. After I finished the main story and did a good handful of open-world missions, the pause screen informed me I was only at about 30 percent completion. The game boasts hundreds of playable characters, dozens of unlockable ‘cheats’ buyable from Gwenpool (Gwen Stacy, but in a universe where she became Deadpool) at the Avengers Mansion and a plethora of open-world missions.

With a huge array of brand new characters from the Marvel Universe, including old favorites in new guises, this game is sure to thrill both LEGO and Marvel fans, as well as newcomers to the series.
- Metacritic
The world map features new icons, filling in with check marks as goals are completed. And since Chronopolis is such a huge place, players can fast travel between districts in a flash.
- Kotaku

Huge cast of characters to choose from.
- GameSpot

The humour is on par with anything in the MCU.
- Games Radar
The boss fight with Kingpin is excellent , involving dancing, a car with really bright headlights, and a boombox.
- Push Square

Large and diverse open world with plenty to see and do.
- True Achievements
Chronopolis itself is probably the biggest highlight. Rather than focus on one familiar location, such as New York City, the campaign’s time-traveling setup gave the team an excuse to create what’s essentially a massive theme park.
- Game Informer

More than 230 beloved and/or obscure playable characters.

Obviously, the multi-dimension concept means that missions can vary dramatically in style and locale. That’s a plus because, beat-for-beat, the missions in Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 play just like every other Lego Marvel game ever.
- CGM
Plenty of Marvel heroes to play with and improved character creator.
- Game Axis
Multiplayer is one of the real strong points of LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2. From the beginning of the game, a second player is able to hop into the action by pressing start. From here you and your friend are able to take over each of the different playable characters and work towards a common goal.

There's more characters here and this mashup of worlds provides a good deal of variety.

Dashing, flying and swinging around this condensed hub world is one of the main joys in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. You can dart from the Sanctum Sanctorum to K’un-Lun in less than a couple of minutes, and it somehow makes perfect sense. Because comic books.

What experts didn't like
Occasional lag noted, especially in multiplayer mode. More serious gamers may find it somewhat boring.
- BestReviews
Need to get used to new voices.
- Trusted Reviews

The most disappointing thing about Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is that it’s still ultimately a Lego game. Well-written dialogue and hard-earned character growth are undercut by every single mission sticking to the established Lego game formula.
- Polygon

Story missions are frustrating and tedious.
- Kotaku
November 14, 2017 | Full review
It is the same old Lego gameplay.
- GameSpot

Technical issues, including glitches and frame-rate drops.
- Games Radar
The voice acting, jokes, and dialogue in general, however, are pretty mediocre. While there are some good performances (Kang in particular) most of the heroes are forgettably voiced - Star-Lord and Spider-Man will induce plenty of groans with their endless bad quips, and we're not even sure whether they're tongue-in-cheek or not.
- Push Square

Finicky and sometimes awkward controls.
- True Achievements
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 has a lot to like, but unfortunately the whole package is marred by a shocking lack of polish. I’ve come to expect a few bugs scattered throughout a Lego game at this point, but it’s never been anything like this. Without hyperbole, every session I’ve had with the game has ended not because I was ready to take a break, but because another game-ending glitch popped up.

Having to select the language on startup every single time is really annoying.

Exploring Chronopolis just isn’t fun. On top of that, finding these regions can be a pain in the ass as they don’t show up on the mini-map. If you want to get to a particular area, you’ll have to manually mark it on the main map and then head over to the landmark that appears in-game.
- Game Axis
However, if you’re not into all of the hundreds of sidequests and objectives, then the story experience alone might not be able to keep your interest.
- Tech Raptor

There are problems: the X-Men and Fantastic Four don't return from the first game, the voice cast drains characters of some of their charm, and with this many characters, things can get a little confusing.
- US Gamer

It’s a shame that the underlying mechanics remain so defiantly clunky, while the controls seem a little haphazard in places. Multiplayer is curiously inessential, too.
