Expert Reviews

What experts liked

I like the overall color and design, and I found that the elevations on the surface feel good on your back. King Koil’s the only mattress manufacturer endorsed by the International Chiropractors Association to help promote proper spinal alignment, and, for an air mattress, I stayed pretty comfortable during the night.
My husband and I felt at ease and had just as much space as we do in our own bed. With a 20-inch height, it has an elevated design that made us feel like we were sleeping on a traditional mattress. All in all, once it is set up with bedding and pillows, this mattress doesn’t give you the impression of a temporary bed.
With a built-in air pump, elevated construction, waterproof comfort quit top and a tremendous amount of additional features, this is far from being your regular, cheap, inflated mattress. This is an affordable solution, and it’s not going to cost you a small fortune.
Makes use of very high-quality material that resists punctures as well as regular wear and tear that usually causes sinking issues in average quality air mattresses. The content is PVC, and it is highly durable.
It has an extra thick waterproof quilt topping. It also has a firm extra spinal support that makes it the best air mattress for back pain. A suede topping is included to keep the bedding in place.
There are a few reasons to like the King Koil Luxury Raised Air Mattress: the built-in pump is powerful enough to completely inflate the mattress in just over 3 minutes and it's quite tall, measuring about 21 inches high.

Designed with more comfort and thickness. I noticed it has a spinal support, too, something unique among air mattresses. It promotes a pain-free and restful sleep.

What experts didn't like

I noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from the pump after airing up my bed. It stopped after a few minutes, but the smell did linger.
Pump interferes with fold, doesn’t fit well in the bag. Deflates more slowly than it inflates. Manual valve for on-the-go use can leak.
Seemed to lose more air overnight than any other air mattress we tried. We didn’t like the built-in pillow, which pushed taller testers too far down the mattress, causing their feet to hang off the end. And since it has a designated top of the bed, this mattress can be positioned in only one direction, so you may not be able to get the power cord very close to an outlet.
The construction of this mattress is very bulky. It’s meant to be put on the ground – not in a frame. With this in mind, if you are looking for a bed-frame mattress, this is not your go-to option.
Pricier than the other brands.
Of the inflatable mattresses I tested, this was the most pungent and plasticky-smelling inflatable airbed. It's also heavy. The queen-size King Koil weighs nearly 21 pounds, though Amazon lists it at 17. Even when fully inflated, this mattress squishes down significantly when you try to get up from it, and I found that it repeatedly lost considerable amounts of air overnight.

Not ideal for camping. Heavy weight not suitable for transport.
