Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Premium build and materials. Sharp and fully-circular screen. Android and iOS compatible
Attractive design. Long battery life. Impressive list of fitness and health features. iOS and Android compatibility. Swim-proof
Sapphire screen, crisp display, fluid performance, comfortable, waterproof, standard watch strap support, two-day battery
Great design. High-quality material selection. Very good build. Heart-rate monitor. Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 4.1. Easy to exchange wrist straps
If your predilection is for an Android smartphone, on the other hand, this is the best you can buy right now. From its crisp, vibrant AMOLED display to its sapphire crystal glass top, and its slimline body to its sophisticated high-end watch looks, it nails every aspect of the smartwatch formula. A surprisingly pleasing smartwatch debut from the most unexpected of quarters.

Overall the Huawei Watch GT is a mixed bag. It looks glitzy in pictures, but doesn't deliver the quality of build in reality. It's got a purportedly long-lasting battery life - but nothing more stand-out than a Garmin device, which would also offer a wider array of apps and a better-established tracking system. Huawei's LiteOS operating system, too, feels like a counter to the GT name, with operation not being very fluid. The GT's success hangs in the balance of its price point. At £200 it certainly undercuts the high-price Garmin devices, so some may see it as a viable long-lasting exercise tracker.
Premium build. Many choices of colors. Android Wear is being mature. Beautiful display
The Huawei Watch is one of the best smartwatches in the market, but then again it should be, because it’s also one of the most expensive. The extra money does mean you get more premium materials, build, and specs. There’s no question the impressive circular screen is one of the best I’ve seen on a smartwatch. Android Wear has improved a lot recently, but it’s identical on all devices, so that price isn’t really buying you any more functionality.
Attractive, watch-like design and stainless steel casing. Sapphire glass protects the display. WiFi extends usable range, supports both Android and iOS.

What reviewers didn't like

Dodgy customisation. Only comes in one size. So-so battery life
Software lacks polish. Derivative user interface
No, the Huawei Watch is hard to review because the thing that primarily differentiates an Android Wear watch is its design. And despite its round face and clean lines, I don't really like the look of the Huawei Watch as much as I like the new Moto 360. But I also know that many of my colleagues disagree with me — some of them vehemently.
Huawei isn't a leader in smartwatches or fitness trackers. Its efforts in the former are lackluster compared to what Samsung and Apple are doing, while its fitness trackers are underappreciated for what they offer. That will likely remain the case with this year's lineup.
Same specifications as last year’s smartwatches, maybe too big for some, more expensive than the competition
Only middling battery life. Wi-Fi not very efficient. No ambient light sensor
The one thing that might give you cause for concern is the price. The Huawei Watch is more expensive than any other Android Wear smartwatch.

The Huawei Watch is not a perfect choice but it is the best Android Wear watch at the moment. Lack of GPS. Average battery life
Pricey, though you do get a nice metal casing for the price. Large size not friendly to women and smaller boned men. No speaker, no calling, largely still a platform for notifications and Google Now.
