Expert Reviews

What reviewers liked

Easy set-up for both Mac and PC computers.
The Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 is exceptionally easy to use and has several uncommon scanning options.
It's faster— rated at 25 pages per minute (ppm) to the S1500's 20ppm—and this was borne out in our testing.
With high quality scans, a 50-page document feeder that takes care of long documents in a flash, and a software package that makes managing all of your newly digitized documents easy as pie, it is the clear leader of the scanning world.
The paper was pulled in and pushed out in about 2 seconds! According to Fujitsu, the scanner is capable of 25ppm (pages per minute), but my timed tests show it to be much much faster.

It’s also fast enough to scan up to 25 double-sided pages per minute, and it can handle sizable stacks of records, up to 50 pages at a time.
The iX500 feels sturdy, and its flip-up ADF has room for 50 sheets.

What reviewers didn't like

The most expensive product on our shortlist.
However, there aren’t any obvious links to customer support.
The scanner can only connect wirelessly to one computer at a time; to switch to another computer you need to first connect to the scanner via USB and run a mobile setup utility on the new machine.
The Fujitsu iX500 ScanSnap is quite expensive, listing for $495.
However, it is almost entirely focused on traditional document scanning as opposed to photos, receipts, or other content, so it may not be the right fit for everyone.
