Expert Reviews

What experts liked

We are digging the aesthetic of this backpack. Its rounded shape, elegant stitching, and old-fashioned type on the logo tag come together to create a bag that’s somehow both heritage and modern. Bergshell also has a flat ripstop construction, that classy matte finish, and is extremely soft to the touch. So soft that we’ve found ourselves petting the Ulvo 23 on more than one occasion.
First of all, it’s the Bergshell fabric. This is a brand new development by Fjällräven and they’re already rolling it out in some of their trekking packs and jackets. It might have a soft feel to it, but underneath that outer layer there’s a laminate and taped seams to make it fully waterproof. And it’s tough as well, thanks to a unique flat ripstop weave that Fjällräven have utilised.
Using a new type of fabric called Bergshell, Sweden-based brand Fjallraven (of Kanken fame) has created a super durable, totally waterproof backpack without forcing you to buy into the whole heavy-duty-nylon, basically-a-trawlerman-now vibe of similar bags. Think trendy Swedish looks with all the functionality you'd expect from a country that has a culture embedded in the outdoors.
A roll-top style backpack that enables you to expand or shrink the size of your backpack to fit the amount of gear/things you’re carrying around at any given time. It’s stylish enough to carry every day to school or the office, and it’s expandable and big enough to use as a travel backpack.
It’s made from a new waterproof and extremely durable ripstop fabric called Bergshell, that is made from recycled nylon that reduces reliance on virgin materials. Ideal for light hikes, travel and commuting, the 23-litre capacity Ulvo 23 features a zipped main compartment with a large internal pocket and penholders, a 15” padded laptop sleeve and stretch side pocket. The wide opening means it’s easy to pack and unpack and it has a comfortable padded back panel and shoulder straps with ventilating mesh.

What experts didn't like

Shoulder straps are a little too close together at the top of the pack. Front pocket opens vertically, which encourages your stuff to fall into a disorganized jumble.
