What experts liked

Ember is a sleek, app-controlled mug that will keep your beverage at a set temperature anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees and it’s mostly accurate based on my testing.
- New York Mag
No need to microwave coffee anymore to keep it warm. Works for 1.5 hours on a single charge. Wireless charging. LED light indicates when cup is ready. Adjustable temperature. Other temperature control mugs only have one preset temp—this model lets you adjust the temp between 120 and 145 degrees.
- Baby Bargains
Using your phone, you can set your preferred temperature, customize presets, and even receive notifications. The LED display on the base of the mug lets you know when it’s heating up, cooling down, or just right, and the included charger doubles as a coaster. We’re in love, basically.
- Rolling Stone
Warms beverages to preferred temperature. Modern minimalist design. Customizable LED light. 90-minute battery life. Easy-to-use app.
- The Spruce Eats
Keeps precise temperatures. Easy to use. App adds customisation options.

Can go into sleep mode to save on battery life and can be woken up by filling them or with a little movement. In addition to the built-in features, the mugs have a mobile app you can use to control the temperature of your drink, monitor your caffeine intake and customize your display.
- Digital Trends
My coffee stays perfectly hot for about 2 full hours — which is honestly how long it takes me to drink it. It you’re snagging a gift for a new mom in your life this Mother’s Day, this is it. It saves her time, eases anxiety, and allows her to feel independent while otherwise feeling totally out of control.
- Best Products
Two sizes and colors to choose from. High quality materials. Maintains temperatures between 120°-145° Fahrenheit. Battery lasts around 80 minutes. Charging coaster keeps drink hot all day. Connects via Bluetooth, app easy to use.
- iMore
The Ember mug is available in 10 fl oz or 14 fl oz. Easily hand wash in the sink as it can be submerged up to three feet deep in water. The battery is built-in to the stainless steel cup. Mugs come with a charging coaster.

What experts didn't like

The only downside is there’s no USB charger.
- New York Mag
Pricey. Battery is not replaceable. Mug must be hand-washed. 145 degrees is still not hot enough for some folks. We know, some like it hot. But temperature control mugs are designed to keep your beverage warm, not piping hot. 10 ounce cup is too small for some folks. Good news: there is also a 14 ounce version. Bad news: it is more expensive.
- Baby Bargains
Pricey for a mug. Interior coating is extremely delicate. Hand wash only.
- The Spruce Eats
Expensive. Hand wash only.
- Trusted Reviews
Battery life may vary. Expensive. Bottom of mug cannot be wet when on charging coaster.
- iMore
Mug cannot be washed in the dishwasher; hand wash only. The battery takes longer to charge than some other cups.

An Overview On Temperature Controlled Mugs

Many of us love a hot cup of coffee or tea, but it often cools too quickly, or it’s too hot to drink straight away. There are a number of options available for keeping a mug of coffee or tea at the perfect drinking temperature, including passive heat-retaining mugs and active temperature-controlling mugs.

Heat-retaining mugs are different from temperature-controlling mugs, but often achieve the same goal. The primary difference in effectiveness is how frequently you plan to top off your mug over the course of the day.

If you plan to slowly work on a cup of coffee or tea steadily over the course of a day, you might prefer a temperature-controlling mug, which uses a battery to keep its liquid contents at a steady temperature. This way, you can enjoy your drink at the temperature you like it at, at least as long as the battery holds out.

If you are more likely to drink multiple cups of coffee over the course of the day, you may be just fine with a heat-retaining mug. Each time you refill the mug you will be adding hot liquid again, which will bring the overall temperature up and restore the phase-change material’s store of thermal energy.

The Temperature Controlled Mug Buying Guide

  • A car-charging heated mug is great for traveling, but doesn’t work as well when you’re spending a lot of time at a desk.
  • Heated mugs with charging or power coasters are ideal for work stations you’ll be seated or standing at for long periods, but if you only have one such coaster, you’ll need to bring it with you when you transition between work and home to take advantage of the powered functions of the mug.
  • Longer battery life usually equates with a heavier or bulkier battery. Keep that in mind if you plan to move around with your mug a lot, such as between frequent meetings or coworkers’ desks.
  • Powered mugs will sometimes include a removable inner lining to make washing easier, but will almost always require hand washing.
