Coleman Montana Weatherproof Family Tent, 8-Person

Last updated: February 21, 2023

The hinged door on this family tent is a refreshing break from the traditional setup, which requires you to unzip the door to enter and exit. This option also comes with an electrical plug inside for keeping your technology charged. High ceilings mean you can walk around inside without stooping down. We liked that the instructions were sewn into the case for easy assembly. We also liked the high bottom liner, as well as the zipper storage pouches inside.

From The Manufacturer

Set up a home base with some extra sleeping space with the Coleman Montana 8-Person Tent. An extended door awning creates a dry space to store gear and enter the tent. If it rains, the included rainfly and the WeatherTec system with its patented welded floors and inverted seams will help you stay dry. Additionally, angled windows, which you can keep open in the rain, help keep the water out while allowing for extra air circulation. Setup is simple with snag-free, continuous pole sleeves and the patented pin-and-ring system. A hinged door makes for easy comings and goings. Inside, there’s enough room to stretch out on three queen-sized airbeds, and storage pockets help to keep small items organized. When it’s time to head home, the tent easily packs up into an expandable carry bag with a rip strip until you’re off on your next adventure.

The rainfly is rather generous and extends out over the front of the tent,This creates a waterproof entryway where you can take off your raincoat and shoes before going into the tent. You’ll love this feature if you regularly camp in rainy areas.
The packed size of this tent is really impressive, 27.5 x 9.25 x 9 inches (70 x 23.5 x 23 cm). So you can transport it even on a motorbike, and I see it as a nice tent for motorbike groups.

E-port for electrical power inside the tent so that you don’t lose network.

The Montana 8 is also lightweight and is probably among the most affordable big family tent options currently available in the marketplace.
The set up of the Montana 8 is pretty easy. Most people will have no problem setting it up as the instructions are straight forward and there are several features that help make sure you are putting the right piece in the right place.

What reviewers didn't like

Some have complained that it is not well ventilated.
Only 2 very small storage pockets.
The door is quite narrow at the bottom because of the curve so there is just one thing to think about if anyone in your party has some difficulty walking, and that is the need to step over the threshold.
There is no vent close to the floor.
The tent sagged when beach camping.
The floor plan does not work well with large camping cots
When rain cover is on, air doesn`t enter that much.
Requires at least two people to set up – instructions are not entirely clear.
However, as big as the tent is, the windows are smaller.
There are 2 small wall pockets inside which can store things like phones but it seems a little thin on storage for a large occupancy tent.
The fact that it can sleep 8 people is far more important. It has good ventilation but if there are 8 people in the tent and it is very hot and humid outside, don’t expect fresh and cool breeze in the tent because that is impossible.
A price of $200+ may bother some buyers.
The open mesh ceiling has been known to let cold air in when the tent is located in a chilly environment. However, this ceiling is perfect for star gazing and has been designed so as to not allow the entry of water.
As with most tents, this is almost impossible to get it back in its carry bag
Some users complained that it’s floor material is a bit thin, which creates trouble while camping on rough terrain. You can carry a thick mattress or airbed to overcome this issue.
