The KeyFit 30's stay-in-car base has a ReclineSure leveling foot and two RideRight bubble level-indicators to help achieve and verify proper angle in the vehicle seat. The base is also equipped with premium LATCH connectors and a SuperCinch tightener for a secure fit with a fraction of the effort! For alternate installation with the vehicle seat belt, clear belt routing and integrated lock-offs make it easy to position, tighten and lock the belt into place. A smooth underside helps protect vehicle seats from damage. The car seat carrier includes removable head and body support to accommodate newborns as small as 4 pounds. A five-point harness with one-pull tightening helps keep baby secure, and the carrier shell is lined with EPS energy-absorbing foam for improved impact protection. An adjustable, removable canopy provides shade from the sun. The KeyFit 30 is designed for travel system use with compatible strollers from Chicco. What experts liked

The Chicco KeyFit 30 performs as well as or better than pricier seats and is measurably safer and easier to use than less expensive ones. Installation is generally a bigger problem for people than seat safety, and the KeyFit 30 is easier to install than competitors, with or without a LATCH system. It consistently ranks among the safest infant car seats in government front-impact crash testing.
- The New York Times
Easy LATCH installation, better crash test results, price.
- Baby Gear Lab
Easy and safe installation of base and car seat. Removable and machine-washable fabric. Secure fit for smaller babies with infant insert.
- Verywell Family
Comes in eight different color combinations. Affordable for most budgets. Can be used with Chiccos stroller traveling systems. Removable full-body newborn support padding.
- Car Seats Mom
The base of this car seat is relatively easy to install and makes it to easy to remove the car seat for switching cars or attaching to a stroller. The car seat itself seems very secure.
- Baby List
LATCH System. Comfortable. Crash test. Easy installation with or without car seat base.

What experts didn't like

Coarse fabric, heavier, hard to install without the base.
- Baby Gear Lab
May require an adapter to fit other brands' strollers. Fabric is not very breathable. A bit heavy compared to other infant car seats.
- Verywell Family
Potential to be outgrown quickly. No extended legroom options for toddlers.
- Car Seats Mom
It is very tight so it’s hard to get my baby in and out. Additionally, I struggle to get the straps where they need to be for my baby. I fear he will outgrow this car seat sooner than I would like, so will probably have to purchase another one in the next few months.
- Baby List
The canopy could be slightly bigger.

An Overview On Car Seats

Choosing the correct car seat is one of the most crucial decisions a parent can make for their child. A good car seat should support the fragile parts of your child’s body. It should also have soft materials on the surfaces the child will be touching to ensure comfort during car rides.

There are three general types of car seats: rear-facing seats for younger children, forward-facing seats and booster seats for older children. Some car seats are convertible and can switch between rear- and forward-facing. There are also all-in-one models that can also be booster seats.

Rear-facing seats cradle and support the fragile spinal columns of newborns and infants throughout a ride and in the event of a crash. A rear-facing configuration is the safest for all children until they outgrow the car seat’s rear-facing size and weight ratings.

Besides configuration, two other important considerations you should have in mind when choosing a car seat are ease of use and whether the car seat fits your vehicle. You should be able to install your car seat correctly every time, without any uncertainty.

The Car Seat Buying Guide

  • Test out your car seat in your vehicle before buying it, or make sure you can return it if it doesn’t work to your liking.
  • The configuration of your car may not accommodate some car seats, so do a little research before buying.
  • Keep in mind where in the car the car seat will be so you can ensure it is cleaned regularly.
  • As your child gets older, let them participate in the shopping process by letting them pick colors and patterns on your next model of car seat. This will give them a closer connection to the seat.
