Overall Take

This brand is known for its great sound, and this set of Bluetooth speakers doesn't disappoint. The 360-degree sound makes this one even more powerful, providing deeper tones than we expected from such a small speaker. We also liked the sleek design, easy-to-use button interface on top of the speaker and the 12-hour battery life. It also paired easily with our phones, which is a must when it comes to Bluetooth speakers.

In our analysis of 54 expert reviews, the Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker placed 9th when we looked at the top 16 products in the category. For the full ranking, see below.

Expert Reviews

What experts liked

What separates the Bose from its competitors is the ability play a little louder, put out more bass without distorting and sound a little more natural with decent detail
-
The 360-degree sound makes the Revolve more suited to listening outdoors than the directional sound of the SoundLink Color II.
The sound from the Revolve is detailed and spacious, with good release of the treble and upper mid-range.
In our testing, the Revolve delivered the kind of crisp, balanced, immersive sound that we did not expect to come from a Bluetooth speaker.
Generally speaking, the SoundLink Revolve delivers modest response in the sub-bass realm, plentiful presence in the lows and low-mids, and sculpted highs to match.

What experts didn't like

The Revolve sounded the same whether plugged in or running via battery, although Bose says output is limited slightly to conserve power when the battery dips below 30 percent.
-
It’s disappointing that Bose didn’t throw in the $30 (£19.95) charging dock for free like it does with the slightly cheaper SoundLink Mini II, which costs $180 (£170, AU$300).
However, it does sound a bit ragged and distorted by the time it hits its limit.
This isn't particularly heavy in the scheme of things, but it is heavy enough that you'll probably at least notice the extra weight in your bag or backpack.
Both of these speakers are well-made and sound great—but they also feel a tad overpriced.
