What experts liked
Impressive visuals. Immersive atmospheric effects, like godrays and fog. Mod support adds incredible replay value. Consistent FPS throughout All DLC in one package. Feels and looks new regardless that it's a 5 year old game
- Tweak Town

But the chief tweak I really enjoyed was the smooth framerate on consoles, and after digging into the mod support on Xbox One, I'm starting to see the light as well.
- Destructoid

Massive open world. Many amazing stories. Tons of abilities and character creation options. Dragons!
- Digital Trends
The reason for this is that Skyrim is one of the most gargantuan undertakings gamers will experience all year. The sheer size of the adventure, both in terms of its environment and in the amount of activities available to the player, is mind-blowing.
- The Guardian
New lighting techniques and a fluffy sort of frozen fog give the world a cold sparkle, and the previously puffy faces are sharp, mean and defined.
- PC Gamer

Although it may be easy to overlook the improved graphics, there’s no way to overlook the incredible improvements to load times. Console power has come a long way since 2011 and the days of setting down the controller and going to make a sandwich after clicking fast travel are behind us.
- Game Rant
Thankfully, the effort that Bethesda put into designing the game’s world is what allows it to continue to impress despite its shortcomings.
- Attack Of The Fan Boy

Last but not least, we need to highlight the game's soundtrack, which is still superb. Composer Jeremy Soule's music is effortlessly atmospheric, and really ties the whole experience together. As far as we're concerned, it remains one of the best game soundtracks ever crafted.
- Push Square

One of the reasons it's so appealing to follow every objective you find is that the quality of the game's dungeons is greatly improved over those in Oblivion, and feels like a further evolution of the sort of combat areas in Fallout 3.
- Giant Bomb

Skyrim is still a great place to lose yourself in for awhile, with a whole world of side-quests as well as the main quest and all the expansion DLC content to devour.
- Game Grin
Expansive world, engaging side quests, finely-tuned progression system, console mods, and all expansion packs.
- RPG Fan

The only real positive is that they gave the game away for free to players that owned the base game and dlcs.
- Hold To Reset

A brilliant new addition to the game on console is the ability to add mods.

What experts didn't like
It's still Skyrim, so expect glitches and bugs. Weird horizontal lines. Textures look awkward at far distances.
- Tweak Town
November 13, 2016 | Full review
I'm straight-up unimpressed by the campaign, which was a weird feeling to have since it begged the question of whether or not it was ever justified.
- Destructoid

Noticeable clipping and other bugs
- Digital Trends
Unlike some current-gen console re-releases, Skyrim Special Edition is not a complete remake from the ground up.
- Game Rant
As mentioned previously, bugs are still a big issue with Skyrim and it’s harder to look past them this time considering we’re dealing with a 5 year old game.
- Attack Of The Fan Boy
November 18, 2017 | Full review
We did, however, suffer a couple of crashes during our 60 hours with the remaster.
- Push Square
November 8, 2016 | Full review
On the raw technical side, I experienced four lockups and one minor cave where the frame rate inexplicably became unplayable, and some dragon skeletons in particular tended to spawn halfway into the ground from time to time.
- Giant Bomb
November 10, 2011 | Full review
It’s just a shame it didn’t get more than a visual touch-up.
- Game Grin
No new official content, glitches galore, and remastered graphics and textures that aren’t up to snuff with some older PC mods.
- RPG Fan
November 24, 2016 | Full review
The same vanilla Skyrim glitches are still prevalent in this version. The quests you did five years ago are all the same, there are no new weapons or armor sets.
- Hold To Reset
October 29, 2016 | Full review
Probably my biggest complaint with the game, even though it is smooth, is its inability to run at 60fps. It’s disappointing, really, and something that should be capable of running on hardware significantly more powerful than last generation.
