- Dripped Coffee

Its smaller size is better for overall storage. The machine is quiet and reduces heat well. Dual electric and gear speed reducer helps to cut down on jamming. Baratza’s line of grinders are generally very well suited for all purpose use, but when taking the cost into consideration, espresso grinding is particularly impressive on this unit. Baratza also has an excellent reputation for replacing parts.
- Coffee or Bust
The Baratza Encore has a rather basic calibration system; almost like that of commercial grinders. It’s one of the only grinders in its price range that can be adjusted which is an especially useful feature if you are a picky user.
- The Coffee Chronicler
40 settings gives you a broad spread of choice whether you prefer a coarse French press or a finely-ground espresso. Motor designed to keep your coffee beans cool even during prolonged grinding sessions. Surprisingly affordable given the quality and brand heritage. User-friendly grinder with no surplus features and an easy access pulse button. Restrained running speed of 450RPM keeps the noise down and the efficiency up. High quality conical burrs built to last the distance
- Fourth Estate Coffee
This reliable powerhouse produces a consistent grind required for delicious pour over, drip, or espresso coffees at a fraction of what similar quality burr grinders cost.
- Real Simple

What experts didn't like
It grinds beans slowly. It also lacks any extra features such as a timer, screen or scale
- CNET
February 3, 2017 | Full review
The dosing unit is difficult to use, and the motor is noisy
- BestReviews
January 1, 2019 | Full review
The grinding process is pretty slow
- Dripped Coffee
January 1, 2019 | Full review
Compared to Baratza’s Virtuoso, the overall grind range is more limited. The machine can produce a bit of static.
- Coffee or Bust
There aren’t any “convenience” features such as dose controls or a high precision timer, which isn’t a surprise since the Encore is meant for beginners. It also makes a bit of a mess when the basket is removed because of static electricity building up.
- The Coffee Chronicler
Hopper size leaves something to be desired Minimal functionality that might disappoint
- Fourth Estate Coffee
This model has 40 clear adjustments on the base so you can easily tweak and repeat your grind choice. However, as Baratza’s base model the Encore only has an on/off switch, so it doesn’t allow for a timed grind and it also doesn’t include a built in scale.
- Real Simple
Does not have the same advanced features that individuals may be looking for. Does not have a timer for consistent measuring or grinding
- Little Coffee Place
January 7, 2019 | Full review
Does not come with many options, Low run-time, Not a small, compact machine

An Overview On Coffee Grinders

Review Melt Fun Fact

It may seem like perfectly grinding coffee beans is a modern convenience. But that’s not the case. In fact, coffee grinders have a long and curious past.

The very first coffee grinders were primitive. Ancient coffee lovers had to use stones to grind their coffee beans. It wasn’t until the 15th century, that people began using the spice grinder instead of stones. They could grind coffee much finer than rocky predecessors. It sufficed for a couple more centuries before people got inventive.

In the late 17th century, Nicholas Book invented the earliest coffee mill.

More coffee mill variations soon followed and by the end of the 19th century, most homes in Europe and the u.s. had a coffee grinder. By that time, the technology was essentially perfected.
