What experts liked
Professionally, they appear to be opposites. Frank works for JD Power, which gives out excellence awards to corporations. Lindsay goes after companies for bias and poor citizenship, or what Frank terms “a career in reverse fascism.”

The best part of her character is simply Lindsay’s endurance; the negativity spewing from her mouth also tests positive for honesty, bravery and a vocal acknowledgment of her limitations.

Good thing the wedding gift bags contain plenty of soul-soothing chocolate.

Besides this interesting love-hate relationship, another contrast that rides high in the film is how the two repulsive creatures play up the intellect quotient when they articulate their thoughts.

For their parts, Reeves and Ryder give endearing performances. The pair are strong enough and have enough chemistry to almost carry off Frank and Lindsay's more disagreeable moments.
- Screen Rant

The most exciting piece of movement within the first half hour is watching Frank begin to carry Lindsay up a hill.

With its detached gaze and ironically bouncy gypsy-jazz soundtrack, Destination Wedding might be praised for its tonal consistency—it’s nothing if not droll—but this consistency comes to feel a lot like repetitiveness as the film progresses.
- Slant Magazine
Reeves is pretty great at making Frank as unlikable as he claims to be, down to a weird throat-clearing tic that suggests someone who doesn’t spend much time in public.

Still, since the movie was basically setting up the central characters to fall in love, audiences would feel somewhat compelled to root for them to end up together, especially when Frank softens a bit before they finally part ways. S

DESTINATION WEDDING is a quiet, but assured comedy.

Reeves and Ryder are perfect together delivering droll, but extremely witty, dialogue that proves their acceptance of the miserable lives they both lead…..and are happy to continue leading.

The aggressive cynicism of these two could be a tired cliche too, but Destination Wedding makes Frank and Lindsay endearing.

What experts didn't like
It’s a shame, as writer/director Victor Levin (a veteran of TV hits like Mad Men and Mad About You) initially has some fun, relatable things to say about the mild hysteria surrounding weddings and the demands they make on invitees, but unfortunately this element soon peters out in favour of the unremitting company of our unsociable heroes and their leaden banter.
- Empire

They were probably thinking that Levin, an Emmy nominee as a writer on Mad Men, was trying something different that would break from typical romcom swill. Props to Levin and his stars for their ambition. Sadly, what’s on screen is still a repellent mess.
- Rolling Stone
Though we hear plenty of gossip about the other wedding attendees, the movie resists the urge to punch down by making everyone else as flagrantly awful as Frank and Lindsay
- Variety

Aside from some beautifully lit vineyard shots, however, the filmmakers practically ignore the abundance of vinous attractions offered by the Paso Robles winery settings.
- The Hollywood Reporter

Destination Wedding will likely disappoint viewers who hoped for a rom-com with a charmingly unlikable leading duo.
- Screen Rant
September 1, 2018 | Full review
There’s a halfway decent script in here somewhere, but it’s directed in unprecedented lazy fashion, and by that, I mean doing absolutely nothing besides pointing the camera at the actors and filming.
- Flickering Myth
August 30, 2018 | Full review
The only context in which we even see the other guests at the eponymous wedding is in long shots from Frank and Lindsay’s perspective, as the pair sits on the perimeter of the rehearsal dinner, in the back row of the wedding, or hidden between wine barrels at a wine tasting.
- Slant Magazine
When I saw that Destination Wedding starred Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder I was sure it couldn’t be that bad. Oh how wrong I was. This is truly one of the worst movies of 2018. Even at a barely feature length 80 minutes, Destination Wedding is an unbearable disaster of a movie.
- Regional Daily News
Sadly, the characters’ laziness and lack of effort to change the vibe of their relationship gets too frustrating to hope for anything more. The musical scoring doesn’t help. It makes it seem like a corny old sitcom that implies something will happen, but it never really does.
- Wynnes World
The dialogue continues to be witty as they actually call each other on their bullsh*t.
