Do you wonder if your drinking water is actually safe or if it’s making you sick? Most of us think our water is clean when it comes out of the faucet. There might actually be a lot of impurities that you can’t see, smell, or even taste. APEX’s Clear Countertop Alkaline Water Filter System is the solution you need to ensure that the water you drink is free of the many contaminants that seep into groundwater supplies. Water from kitchen faucets may be fine for washing dishes – but drinking it is entirely different. If you are looking for a kitchen water filter system, consider APEX water filters. This APEX water filtering system comes as a complete water purification kit that is simple to install and use. It attaches easily to most standard kitchen faucets with easy do-it-yourself installation. Simply remove the aerator screen (bubbler screen) from the faucet and screw on the collar of the APEX diverter valve. It’s one of the least expensive countertop models on the market with NSF certification! You’ll actually find that the majority of countertop filters don’t have certified filtration systems, which is why they can be particularly dicey to shop for. What experts didn't like

Filter’s tube gets in the way of the faucet.
One drawback to the APEX, the hose that attaches the faucet to the filtration unit seems longer than necessary. As a result, it can become a nuisance in tight countertop spaces.
Requires frequent filter changes.
The tube can get in your way depending on the type of faucet you have.
There are filters with a bigger capacity.
- Ewash
Unfortunately, it does not remove fluoride, and it is not possible to install a separate filter for this function.
For one thing, this product is designed to work with the majority of American faucets, but there are some that it will not fit around. If you don’t have the correct faucet setup, you won’t be able to use this particular APEX water filter.
Design Could Be Better – Even though this is a good water filter, its design could be improved. As it is, the filter’s tube can get in your way when using the faucet
The lifespan of the filter is relatively short as compared to the New Wave Enviro Countertop Drinking Water Filter. Hence, it sky-rocketed the annual maintenance cost to $90 per year.
Some commented that the design could be improved to make sure that the filter tube doesn’t block the way when using the faucet. A few also reported trouble getting the unit open in order to change the filter.
Filter can be hard to change.
Replacement after purifying 750 gallons of water – can be expensive in the long term.
Lacks an indicator that would let you know when the filter should be replaced
The filter cartridges are not cheap to replace.
Filtering capacity is said to be 750 gallons. Depending on the severity of contaminants, this number may decrease substantially.
A small disadvantage is a hose that connects the faucet to the unit. If your kitchen space is too tight it could appear a bit long for it.
Durability issues with the plastic lever which tends to break easy.
The overall design could be better. We try to overlook it because of the great quality of the water, but if we had to recommend one change, the design would be it.
There’s no warranty policy on this, so it’s not as great a long-term investment as our more expensive picks. You’re at the mercy of the company’s generosity if something goes wrong.
Uses a plastic lever which may easily snap.
Difficult to separate base and housing unit when you need to swap out filter.
A little improvement has been addressed, and it is, in some cases, that the dripping water is slow and little.
A bit costly compared to others within the range.
- AweFox
Despite how simple it is to assemble the filter once it arrives, it is quite hard to disassemble the screen when it's time to clean. Being difficult is one thing and being possible is another. It is only but difficult.

Overview

For many homes, a water purifier helps keep drinking water safe and can improve the taste of the water. They can come in a couple of different forms: gadgets that attach directly to a faucet or the more popular jug purifiers that incorporate a filter directly into a pitcher or other receptacle. In the latter versions, you simply pour water into the pitcher, and it trickles through a filter into a lower reservoir, cleaner and tastier.

Simplemost Media

How does it do this? In almost every case, personal water purifiers use activated carbon to filter impurities. Carbon is very effective at catching a wide array of particles through the process of adsorption, catching chlorine and other unwanted substances in its pores. You can expect carbon filters to remove particles measuring anywhere from 50 micrometers down to .5 micrometers (a micrometer, also known as a micron, being a mere one-millionth of a meter). You might find that measurement in the specs of a purifier or even in the product blurbs if it’s an especially low number.

Simplemost Media

While carbon filters are great at removing most toxic particles and organic compounds, they’re not so good at catching minerals. Mind you, many of the minerals you’ll find in water are beneficial ones that the body needs, like calcium and magnesium. Even so, some purifiers opt for a secondary filter that can catch bad minerals and leave harmless ones in the mix.

So how do you know what kind of purifier you need? Since even the most thorough jug filtration systems won’t break the bank, it can be easy to just choose the most powerful one. But purifiers with extra layers of filtering can take time to push that water through the system or need more frequent replacements — a big hassle for large families on busy mornings.

It might be best to find out what contaminants are in your water to begin with, and you can do that by getting a water testing kit. They can be obtained from most state or local health departments. The website of the Environmental Protection Agency has a handy list on its website if you’re not sure who to contact first. Those kits will tell you the kind of substances that might be making your water taste funny (like zinc and chlorine), and raise a red flag for harmful and potentially fatal chemicals like lead.
