What experts liked

The Fire HD 10 is powered by a 2GHz Mediatek MT8183 octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. There are 32GB and 64GB options available, both of which support up to 512GB of external storage with a microSD card. It's a huge performance bump over the Fire HD 8, which is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM.

Especially affordable. Large collection of entertainment apps. Alexa voice controls. Stereo speakers. Up to 12 hours of battery life.

Watching one of the latest episodes of The Boys on the Fire HD 10, I saw Homelander's extremely patriotic cape and outfit come through in correct reds, whites and blues, and the hues of shock of bleach blonde hair and Queen Maeve's reddish hair also rendered accurately. Even the dirt on the set of the ad the Supes were shooting, and the camo print of a soldier's uniform came through clearly. According to our Klein K10-A colorimeter, the Fire HD 10 produces a solid 106% of the sRGB spectrum, which beats the 97% rating from the new iPad .

The first is a win for those who enjoy modern ports, the micro USB charging has finally been consigned to the dustbin of history, and instead we have the indisputably superior USB-C charging. In addition to allowing for a reversible connection (which is always nice when fumbling with cables in the dark), this also allows for improved compatibility with a host of different accessories.
- Tech Radar
Aside from the 30 per cent faster processing promised by that octa-core, the USB-C port is perhaps the most significant of these upgrades. It means a full charge from flat now takes three hours instead of four. The USB-C connection also increases the speed of data transfer.
- What HiFi
The screen is still a nice big 10.1-inch 1080p display that looks far better than you’d expect for a $149 tablet. Given that 4K content is still somewhat rare on most streaming services, it works nicely for most TV and movie watching.
- The Verge
Built-in Alexa allows for a hands-free experience, so you can check the weather, navigate through videos, conduct searches, and more by just saying “Alexa.” This Amazon Fire tablet also comes with one-year free Amazon Kids+ (formerly known as FreeTime Unlimited), which helps younger members of the family find kid-friendly content while remaining in-app on your tablet.

What experts didn't like

Although the Fire HD 10 boasts dual speakers with Dolby Atmos branding, audio quality isn't the tablet's strong suit. With peak volume coming in at 84dB, it's loud enough to fill a room, but the sound is tinny and hollow.
- PC Magazine
Optimized for fun instead of productivity.
- BestReviews
Its sound lacks slightly. Jamming out to Michael Jackson's "Thriller," at my home office, I noticed that while the tablet can fill a small-to-medium sized room, its low-end sounds were a little flat, and when I could hear some bass it was slightly distorted. Listening to Lizzo's "Truth Hurts," her vocals sounded a little too sharp, and not full enough.
- Tom's Guide
One significant issue we found however, was glare on the panel. Although it does get reasonably bright, it is also very reflective. This likely won’t bother you in most situations, however it does mean that that one annoying beam of sunlight that you can’t avoid may ruin your leisure time.
- Tech Radar
Still very Amazon-centric.
- What HiFi
The actual hardware feels as cheap as before, with a toy-like plastic back that reminds you constantly that you’re holding an $149 tablet.
- The Verge
Built-in cameras are adequate but unremarkable, with 2-megapixel (MP) resolution for both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras and middling 720p HD recording quality.
