Before the events of 2020 began to unfold and take all of our attention, one of the most talked-about of topics of 2019 was Popeyes’ chicken sandwich.
The sandwich, which was brand new to the menu at the time, sold out just two weeks after it was introduced. The sold-out sandwich caused so much controversy, it inspired Halloween costumes and even led Popeyes to encourage customers to DIY a solution, telling fans to instead order chicken tenders and bring their own bun.
While shipping delays are now causing other items to remain sold out all over the country, Popeyes is apparently no longer having problems with their sandwiches. In fact, they have so many, they’re now giving them away.
Popeyes has teamed up with Grubhub to offer free chicken sandwich combos every Sunday for the rest of the year. Now through Dec. 26, you can get a free Classic Chicken Sandwich Combo or Spicy Chicken Sandwich Combo (which includes a sandwich, side and drink) with any $20 Popeyes purchase (before tax, tip and fees) when you order through Grubhub.
The offer cannot be combined with other discounts, is only available at participating locations and is limited to one offer per customer per day. The deal is only good while supplies last, however; while Popeyes has enough sandwiches now, they are expecting high demand and there is a chance they will again run out.
The remaining dates you’ll be able to get the deal are: Oct. 24, Oct. 31, Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Nov. 21, Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, Dec. 19, and Dec. 26.
If you’ve never had Popeyes’ chicken sandwich, it is made with an all-white-meat chicken breast fillet that’s marinated in a blend of Louisiana seasonings, then hand-battered and breaded in a buttermilk coating. It comes with crisp barrel-cured pickles and classic or spicy mayonnaise. It’s served on a toasted, buttery brioche bun.
You will need to spend at least $20 to get the free combo meal, so take a look at the rest of Popeyes’ menu for ideas on what to order. One item you might want to try is the brand-new Megan Thee Stallion Hottie Sauce version of the chicken sandwich, which includes a bold and sweet sauce that’s flavored with Aleppo pepper, honey and cider vinegar. Popeyes rolled it out nationwide on Oct. 19.
