Can you believe it? Spring is almost here! On March 20, the vernal equinox arrives in the Northern Hemisphere — and so does Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen.

That’s right: You can kick off your warm-weather months with a free small vanilla soft-serve cone at any participating Dairy Queen store. One free cone per customer is allowed, so bring a friend, too. (DQ mall locations aren’t part of the promotion, just FYI.)

DQ announced Free Cone Day on Twitter, where they also told fans they’d “scientifically” shown via a survey that the cones make people happy:

Though the cones are free, you might want to keep your wallet handy. Some franchisees may “charge” you $1 for the cone in exchange for a donation to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. DQ suggests contacting the location of your choice to find out how they’re participating in Free Cone Day.

If you can’t get to a Dairy Queen on Wednesday, never fear. Beginning the next day (March 21) and running through the end of the month, DQ’s offering a small regular or dipped cone for 50 cents. Download their free app to snag the coupon.

Guess what else? The ice cream free-for-all continues in April, this time at Ben & Jerry’s. On April 9, free cones fly at participating Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Shops across the nation. It’s easy to find a location — the Ben and Jerry’s store locator automatically lists whether a particular shop hosts Free Cone Day.

It’s a bonanza of free frozen treats — happy spring!
