Sure, you can expect your dishes to not always come out sparkling clean, but the last thing you’d expect from your dishwasher is for it to be a safety hazard.

However, more than two years after more than 100,000 dishwashers from multiple major brands were recalled after reports of fires, the recall has now been expanded to cover another 408,000 dishwashers.

Initial Recall Expanded To Include 557,000 Total Dishwashers

The first recall in October 2015 covered 149,000 units. In total, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says 557,000 dishwashers manufactured by BSH Home Appliance and sold under the Bosch, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air, Thermador and Kenmore Elite brands are now included in the recall.

If your dishwasher is one of these brands, go ahead and pop open the door to compare the model number and serial numbers to the list—you can never be too safe.

Overheating And Fires Caused By Dishwashers

The recall follows reports that power cords supplied with the recalled dishwashers from January 2008 to December 2013 could overheat and catch fire.

When the first recall was announced, the CPSC had received 10 reports of electrical cords overheating, including five reports that resulted in property damage.

The new recall comes after five new reports, all which resulted in property damage.

No injuries have been reported, but still, you wouldn’t expect your dishwasher to catch fire, would you?
