Add this to the list of ways you can waste your money.
You know that super useful blue tote bag you can buy at IKEA for less than a dollar? A $2,145 version of that bag now exists. (Don’t worry, we’re confused, too).
IKEA’s bag is durable and it’s good for toting around laundry, carrying picnic supplies, moving and everything in between. It’s made from bright blue plastic and it’s dirt cheap, coming in at just 99 cents.
Well, luxury fashion designer Balenciaga decided to recreate this household staple and charge 216,566 percent more for it! OK, so the Balenciaga version is made of blue wrinkled, glazed leather, but still. Just look at it. The bags are nearly identical.
It’s unclear what Balenciaga was going for with this look, but the folks over at IKEA are super flattered (of course they are).
“We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the IKEA iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!” an IKEA representative told TODAY.
People on the internet are just as confused as we are about all this. One woman just wrote “WHY” in capital letters on Twitter when she heard the news.

Another Twitter user joked that everything is “so IKEA except the price.”
balenciaga…seriously?? Everything is just so IKEA except the price 😂😂😂😂😂

Of course, who knows what all this talk about Balenciaga’s new bag has done for sales—you know what they say, all publicity is good publicity.
