Bugatti’s new hypercar sold for $18.7 million, making it the most expensive car ever

Car fans, get ready to start drooling. Bugatti’s $18.7 million hypercar, the La Voiture Noire, has been sold to an anonymous buyer, making it the most expensive new car ever sold.

The La Voiture Noire was presented to the world for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, which was the luxurious car brand’s 110th anniversary. And in May, at the Villa d’Este in Italy, the La Voiture Noire won the prestigious Design Award of the Concorso.

But why is it so special?

According to a press release from Bugatti, this vehicle “keeps all the elements that make Bugatti hyper sports cars exceptional,” while also paying homage to the infamous Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic in black, which  the company says mysteriously disappeared from workshops in Molsheim during the Second World War.

The car, which made its U.S. debut this week at Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance in Monterey, California, is one-of-a-kind. Literally. The car that’s being exhibited is the very one that’s just been sold.

To put things in perspective, the average Bugatti buyer owns around 42 vehicles, five homes, three private jets, three helicopters and a yacht, says a rep for Bugatti via CNBC.

The anonymous male buyer reportedly agreed to purchase it before it was even made and, according to Business Insider, won’t be able to use it for at least two more years.

While it sounds insane, there are plenty of reasons why this one-of-a-kind supercar is as expensive and coveted as it is.

The glossy car is lightweight, with an all-carbon-fiber body complete with sleek lines and a unique design unlike any other car in the world. It can reach 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds, with a peak speed of 261 miles per hour.

Can you imagine that kind of speed? Considering it has 1,500 horsepower, I guess it makes sense. But then again, I drive an old Volvo, so what do I know?

What are your thoughts? Would you ever buy a car this expensive, even if you had the money?
