Out of all the brown shoe colors you can find, tan is the lightest, most casual tone. Stylists like tan boots, loafers, derbies and brogues because they can really personalize an outfit. Tan suede is a popular choice, but this should not be worn with formal outfits in most cases.
This color also works well for toning down pinstripe patterns and is a great choice with bright blues. It pairs especially beautifully with blue jeans and almost any color of chinos, except for black. Some people will experiment with black pants and tan shoes, but many fashionistas frown upon that. Still, the sky’s the limit when it comes to your style choices.
Men’s and women’s shoes and boots look good in tan, and you’ll find many styles to choose from. One of the most popular is the standard work boot, which covers the ankle, laces up and has a rubber sole.
