When it comes to princess pool toys, mermaids are always a hit with kids and adults alike. Disney’s Ariel mermaid and her cohorts will always be favorite movie characters and toys for kids, and you can find themed dolls, blocks, dress-up sets, plush and waterproof toys and more in stores and online. Ariel and the gang are naturally compatible with swimming pools and bathtubs, but kids like playing with them everywhere.

You can find toys that sink to the bottom for young divers to find, those that wind up and swim and others with light-up tails. Some Little Mermaid toys even sing songs from the movie like “Part of Your World” or speak quotations. Some sing in different languages, too!

Not all the mermaid-themed toys you find are licensed Disney toys, even though they have the trademark red hair and big eyes. If your children don’t settle for anything less than the real Ariel, stick to that, and they won’t be disappointed.

Also, consider their age, and read the product descriptions, because toys need to be developmentally age-appropriate and safe. Toys intended for children 12 and under also have to be third-party tested and have children’s product certificates. It is also good to check for recent toy recalls; companies often recall toys for having small parts that children may choke on and other safety problems.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on princess pool toys. They are not expensive, and if you like, you can buy extras so your children can share them when they play in the pool with their friends. If you’re sitting next to the tub when your little one is playing with princess pool toys, expect to get splashed! And don’t forget, you can join in on the fun; moms, dads and caregivers often enjoy playing Evil Ursula.

DWYM Fun Fact

The Little Mermaid movie came out in 1989, but the story’s origin dates back to 1837 when the author Hans Christian Anderson created the fairy tale. His The Little Mermaid was part of his Fairy Tales Told for Children collection, and he also penned The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina and The Nightingale.

Even though Ariel and her friends are some of the most popular Disney alumni, the movie did not gross as much as the most famous animated movies. The top-grossing earners include Frozen II, Frozen, The Lion King, Incredibles 2 and Minions. Sorry, Ariel!

The Tips and Advice

  • If the princess toy is battery-operated, check to see if the battery is included. When it is, you might want to buy extras.
  • Avoid buying any toys with small parts for children under the age of three.
  • Always supervise children closely while they are in the pool or playing nearby.
  • Get more challenging toys that encourage interactivity for older kids. Dive-down toys, mermaid-themed LEGO sets and Play-Doh are good choices.
